What Transportation contributes to Cardinal Health Operations at Cardinal Health are integral in materials handling and product distribution within our dynamic distribution and manufacturing settings. This encompasses warehousing and fulfillment, transportation, inventory management, and planning across demand, supply, and manufacturing. Our Transportation department is crucial for ensuring the seamless movement of materials and products connecting suppliers, manufacturing sites, warehousing, and customers. We focus on optimizing transportation assets and systems to enhance service delivery and cost efficiencies. We are seeking an accomplished and strategic leader for the position of Director of Transportation Services. Reporting to the Vice President of Transportation, this role involves managing transportation movements within our Pharmaceutical & Specialty Solutions (PSS) segment. You will be instrumental in driving mode management, optimizing services, and achieving delivery excellence across diverse business units. In this capacity, you will also participate in senior-level meetings with our key customers. Your Responsibilities Lead and mentor a team of 33 transportation specialists, focusing on hiring, managing performance, and setting ambitious goals. Cultivate a high-performance culture centered on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Oversee all inbound and outbound transportation coordination for multiple centers, including the National Logistics Center (NLC) and Consumer Health Logistics Center (CHLC), managing various operations across 25 facilities and 230 depots with 45 carriers and 45,000 daily deliveries. Ensure all freight movements are timely and efficient across all regions and transportation modes. Optimize trailer usage, routes, and modes to enhance revenue generation for fleet operations. Identify backhaul and continuous move opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce transportation costs. Manage Courier Hub operations to align with service expectations. Evaluate carrier performance through regular business reviews, scorecards, and recognition initiatives. Ensure compliance with service level agreements (SLAs) for all transportation partnerships. Deliver exceptional customer service related to transportation, including handling corrective actions and special requests. Engage with customers as necessary, while site leaders maintain primary operational relationships. Design and implement transportation strategies that align strategically with business objectives and customer requirements. Promote best practices and innovative solutions to advance transportation effectiveness and cost efficiency. Qualifications 10+ years of progressive experience in transportation or logistics leadership roles. A Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred; equivalent work experience will also be considered. An advanced degree is preferable. Demonstrated success in managing complex transportation networks and leading large teams. Experience in leading distribution center operations is preferred. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Experience in pharmaceutical or healthcare distribution is advantageous. Available to travel approximately 25% of the time.
