BiOrigin Specialty Products - Wiggins MillJob Description: SQF & Quality Control Engineer Job Description Summary The SQF & Quality Control Engineer is responsible for overseeing the implementation, improvement, verification, and validation of the SQF program while maintaining the integrity of the quality system. This role establishes, implements, and directs quality control initiatives to ensure that all products meet customer, consumer, and regulatory expectations. The position also develops and upholds quality assurance standards, procedures, and controls. Additionally, the engineer collaborates closely with manufacturing teams to plan and manage inspection activities and ensure compliance with customer requirements, third-party audit organizations, and regulatory agencies. Food Safety / Quality Management System ResponsibilitiesReview all QMS documents at a minimum annually and ensure they meet the intent of the SQF Code. Develop, implement, and maintain Policies and Procedures that align with SQF requirements to maintain SQF certification. These include GMP, Food Defense, HACCP, and Food Safety. Revise QMS documents as needed based on Internal Audit findings, changes to code, or feedback from Operations. Provide SQF/Food Safety updates to employees Review and file Monthly Area GMP/Product Safety Audits. Follow-up with Area Leaders on GMP / Physical Conditions Corrective Action list. Oversee Pest Control Program and review all pest reports / trends. Conduct all program audits and follow-up on corrective actions Facilitate annual testing requirements & training Responsible for reviewing all Contract Service Provider's specifications and assigning a Food Safety Risk level. Help ensure all routine Contract Service Providers are GMP trained. Facilitate Workmanship, GMP, Food Safety & Food Defense training for new hires. Plan administrator for the Food Defense Plan Promote Food Safety Culture and oversee program Quality Control ResponsibilitiesPlan and conduct studies, trials, and research to determine the feasibility of opportunities for process and product development. Define associated costs/savings, process changes required and risk/benefits analysis. Conceive, develop, and implement improvement opportunities. Implement changes based on results of research, trials or studies. This requires crew training, procedures, and system upgrades. Seek feedback from operating crews to ensure that the planning, organization, implementation and control of process/product improvement stay on track. Ensure the desired results are enduring and communicate post-implementation audits. Fully document and communicate results, conclusions, and recommendations to the business in a timely manner. Proactively seek out opportunities from operators, customers, consumers, industry leaders, and maintenance personnel. Ensure operators and all those responsible for quality are properly informed and trained on procedures for testing the product. Work with operations on a daily basis to troubleshoot operational difficulties, which may produce off-spec product, and to reduce the variability of the product. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred. Minimum 3-5 years quality related experience in tissue industry required. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel and Word required. Advanced knowledge of JD Edwards and Quality Windows, ParcView or similar system(s), preferred. Working knowledge of quality testing meters and gauges required. Strong verbal and written communication skills required Technical problem-solving skills and ability to lead and execute major quality projects. Working Conditions Office setting with daily exposure to paper machine areas and shipping and warehousing areas. Potential hazards include exposure to production equipment, high noise areas and heat and humidity Essential Physical Functions Sitting for extended periods of time at desk or in meetings Occasionally standing for extended periods of time in facility Climbing stairs Ability to wear PPE
