School Plants - Electrician I This position performs intermediate, semi skilled work in the installation, maintenance, repair, and extension of electrical wiring in school buildings. Work is performed under regular supervision. Essential Job Functions: Installs, maintains, repairs, and extends electrical wiring. Assists with installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical outlets and other electrical services and equipment. Assists in repairing, modifying, and installing mechanical/electrical equipment used in food preparation centers. Assists in testing and repairing fire alarm systems. Measures and cuts wire. Bends and installs conduit. Carries tools and wires. Installs and maintains light switches. Replaces ballasts, bulbs, and sockets in overhead lights. Assists with the installation of necessary electrical equipment and wiring in portable classrooms; installs disconnects and meter panel; runs conduit; drives ground rod. Cleans up after work is completed. Assists in other maintenance operations. Performs other related duties as required/assigned. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or its equivalent. At least two years of electrical experience. Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Possession of or ability to acquire appropriate license(s), certificate(s), and/or endorsement(s) for position as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board. Possession of a Journeyman's License or Master Electrician License as required by OSHA is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the standard practices, tools, and terminology of the electrical trade. Knowledge of elementary electrical theory. Knowledge of the safety hazards of the work and of the necessary safety precautions. Skill in making repairs to simple electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment. Skill in the use of electrical maintenance and repair equipment. Ability to perform manual work over extended periods of time. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. Working Conditions & Physical Requirements: Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions. This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Work requires fingering; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work.
