Hope Valley Country Club, located in Durham, North Carolina, and managed by Bobby Jones Links, is hiring for a Racquets Professional. Founded in 1926, Hope Valley is an elite private club featuring a classic Donald Ross designed golf course, state-of-the-art tennis facility, resort-style pool complex, and a spacious, welcoming clubhouse offering its members first-class recreation, dining, and programming. Hope Valley is ideally situated in the heart of one of Southeast's most vibrant, exciting areas. The Racquets Professional is responsible for providing high-quality tennis and pickleball instruction to members and guests of the private country club. This position involves teaching individual and group lessons, organizing tennis programs and events, and promoting tennis participation and engagement within the club community. Responsibilities: Conduct individual and group tennis/pickleball lessons for players of all ages and skill levels, focusing on stroke development, technique, footwork, strategy, and match play. Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans and training programs tailored to the needs and goals of each student, utilizing a variety of teaching methods and drills. Provide feedback and guidance to students during lessons, emphasizing proper technique, sportsmanship, and fitness, and encouraging improvement and progression. Serve as Summer Racquets Camp Coordinator under the direction of the Director of Racquets. Organize and lead tennis clinics, camps, and workshops for adults and juniors, covering various aspects of the game, including singles and doubles tactics, specialty shots, and mental skills. Assist with junior development programs, including organizing tournaments, leagues, and inter/intraclub matches, and mentoring junior players in their development. Coordinate and oversee events and socials, including round-robin tournaments, mixers, and themed tennis parties, to promote camaraderie and community engagement among club members. Assist with daily/weekly, monthly court maintenance and facility upkeep, including setting up and taking down nets, maintaining court surfaces, filling water coolers, disposing of trash and ensuring cleanliness and safety in the tennis facility. Assist with pro shop equipment and apparel sales and stringing services, providing recommendations and advice to members on equipment selection and maintenance. Promote participation and membership engagement through face-to-face conversations, and outreach efforts, such as social media posts, newsletters, and community events. Collaborate with other professionals and team members to deliver a top-notch member experience on and off the courts. Qualifications: Certified at RSPA, PTR, USTA, PPR Level 2 or above, with at least 1-3 years of experience as a racquet teaching professional. Strong playing ability and knowledge of fundamentals, techniques, and strategies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students of all ages and backgrounds. Ability to organize and manage tennis programs and events, including scheduling, marketing, and administration. Enthusiasm for promoting tennis and growing the sport within the club community. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by club events and operations. Must be willing and able to thrive in a team environment. Compensation: Hourly clock in rate of $13 per hour for all hours plus $40 per hour for clinics and 80% of private lesson commissions (lesson rates start at $65 per hour). Stringing labor paid at $15 per racquet Anticipated compensation range: $5,000-6,000+ (variable) per month based on on-court hours. Required Skills The ability to be a part of a cohesive team working toward a common goal. The ability to provide exemplary member and customer service and to lead by example. The ability to be engaged with members and guests both on and off the court. The ability to get along with people. The ability to proficiently use Excel, Word, and club point of sales systems. Must care about the overall health of the program, not just the professional's lesson book. Must be creative.
