The Certified Nurse Assistant must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles across the life span. Possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs. Provides care needed by adult and geriatric patient groups. Resident's activities of daily living (ADLs) needs are met as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures. Tasks include hygiene, grooming, dressing, incontinence/catheter care, elimination/toileting needs, turning/positioning, skin care, etc. Documentation is completed per protocol. Resident's environment and safety are maintained as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures. Tasks include answering call lights and alarms promptly, provision of safety mats and low beds, restraint use under the direction of Nursing, maintaining unit cleanliness, behavior and fall prevention, and monitoring equipment. Documentation is completed per protocol. Resident's nutritional needs are met as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures. Tasks include meal delivery, tray preparation, adaptive equipment, feeding, and honoring resident preferences and choices. Documentation is completed per protocol. Resident's rehabilitative needs are met as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures. Tasks include range of motion, ambulation, transfers, proper body alignment, and use of assistive devices. Documentation is completed per protocol. Resident's rights, refusals, and concerns are reported to Charge and/or Supervising Nurse in a timely manner in accordance with policies and procedures. Changes in resident physical, emotional, and psychosocial status are identified and reported to Charge Nurse promptly. Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is reasonably anticipated. Required tasks involve potential contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues.
