Call and float are required. Weekend coverage is every other weekend. Medication system: Omnicell. Special procedures include LDRP with nursery responsibilities. This is a Baby Friendly facility. Registered Nurses are cross-trained in labor and delivery, circulator role, acute care nursery, and OB triage. Our unit also cares for GYN surgery patients. Registered Nurses perform their own hearing screenings. Patient ratios are 1:1 with labor patients, 1:2 with cytotec inductions, 1:1 with magnesium patients, and 1:3 with couplet (mother-baby) care. If a baby goes to the sick nursery, the Registered Nurse is 1:1. Floating may be required to other units or campuses as needed, limited to areas where competencies have been documented. Interdisciplinary support includes physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation. Patient diagnoses include labor, preterm labor, preeclampsia, fetal demise, and hysterectomy. Special equipment includes Panda warmers and Giraffe incubators.
