Key Responsibilities of the Role Define and maintain the overall architecture for our enterprise infrastructure products, ensuring all technology domains work seamlessly together Lead our platform engineering vision by helping teams build modern, intuitive internal platforms that engineers rely on every day Set clear objectives and service expectations (OKRs, SLIs, SLOs, SLAs) that communicate the health and impact of our infrastructure services Champion a Zero Trust approach, modern security standards, and automated compliance practices that keep our environment protected by default Guide teams in adopting automation and Infrastructure-as-Code to make provisioning, configuration, and change management more reliable and scalable Treat internal platforms as a product, building user-friendly, API-driven workflows that directly reduce friction for Software Developers and Data Engineers Champion GitOps principles, enabling stakeholders to leverage infrastructure using the same pull-request workflows and CI/CD pipelines Apply broad domain awareness-across network, compute, storage, observability, and DevOps-to ensure cohesive and thoughtful design decisions Empower development teams by providing self-service identity and access controls, ensuring security is a seamless, frictionless part of their everyday workflows Expand the use of automation for compliance reporting and operational checks to improve reliability and reduce manual work Provide coaching, mentorship, and cross-team leadership, stepping in hands-on when needed to help teams deliver critical outcomes. Architecture & Design Skills You will help shape the long-term architecture that supports our hybrid environment and influences how teams build and deliver reliable services Design solutions that span multiple infrastructure domains, ensuring each is integrated and built for scale Help evolve our internal platforms into consistent, product-like experiences that incorporate continuous feedback from users Guide the organization toward modern access models, segmentation strategies, and identity-driven security Shape cloud and hybrid architectures that support future growth-whether through DNS/IPAM modernization, SD-WAN adoption, or IPv6 readiness Design for resilience through active-active patterns, tiered architectures, and disaster recovery principles baked into the platform Automation & Infrastructure as Code Automation is a core pillar of how we operate, and you will guide teams toward practices that improve consistency and quality Expand the use of Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks to ensure deployments are consistent, auditable, and repeatable Promote GitOps principles, ensuring infrastructure is versioned and automatically reconciled Help teams embed security and compliance checks directly into CI/CD pipelines Encourage event-driven automation and self-healing capabilities to reduce operational noise and improve reliability Support the transition from ticket-based provisioning to API-driven, self-service experiences Compute & Containerization You will help advance our compute and container platforms, so they are secure, scalable, and easy for engineering teams to adopt Shape the direction of our container orchestration and Kubernetes environments Promote hardened operating system builds to ensure consistency and security across Windows and Linux platforms Guide modernization in hybrid compute environments such as VMware Cloud Foundation and other automation-focused integrations Support efforts to improve capacity planning, workload performance, and the ability to rapidly clone environments for testing or experimentation Network Engineering You will play an important role in advancing our network modernization efforts Support the evolution to software-defined networking and identity-driven network policies Promote improved DNS/IPAM practices and modernization with tools that bring more structure and reliability to the environment Encourage the expansion of network automation using proven tools and intent-verification workflows Advocate for scalable segmentation and Zero Trust models that strengthen security posture while enabling business flexibility Storage & Data Management You will guide the evolution of our storage platforms toward more resilient, efficient, and secure practices Promote modern storage design that incorporates scalable object storage and cost-conscious tiering Champion native security capabilities such as encryption, replication, and ransomware resilience Improve storage observability and cost transparency so teams understand performance trends and the cost-to-serve Observability & Monitoring You will help build a more proactive, data-driven operational environment Strengthen our centralized logging and monitoring strategy across the enterprise Partner closely with stakeholders to design highly observable systems, building real-time telemetry and dashboards that track both application performance and data ingestion at scale Encourage automation that ties monitoring events to actionable remediation paths DevOps & Tooling You will partner closely with infrastructure and development teams to evolve our toolchain and delivery practices Shape templates and practices for our CI/CD pipelines and shared deployment frameworks Promote consistent, well-documented tooling that is easy for teams to adopt and integrate into their workflows Embed security scanning and compliance into the development and deployment lifecycle Security & Compliance You will ensure security is embedded into the foundation of our infrastructure Advance identity and access governance practices, including modern MFA experiences Champion policy-as-code adoption for automated enforcement of security baselines Help align infrastructure operations with CIS, NIST, PCI, and other frameworks Leadership & Collaboration This role is highly collaborative and requires someone who can bring people together Champion a culture of stakeholder and developer empathy; collaborate across engineering groups to deeply understand their pain points and build platforms that accelerates flow state Mentor and develop engineers, helping them grow their automation, architecture, and platform engineering skills Ensure infrastructure strategies align with business priorities and deliver clear value Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and 6 years of experience in infrastructure architecture and engineering Or 8 years of experience in infrastructure architecture and engineering Preferred Qualifications Experience leading modernization efforts across multiple infrastructure domains Strong background in automation, Infrastructure-as-Code, and platform engineering Industry certifications in cloud, networking, compute, automation, or Kubernetes Experience leading broad, multi-year transformation programs across infrastructure domains Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Broad architectural expertise across network, compute, storage, endpoints, and DevOps Strong automation and scripting skill sets Skilled communicator able to influence, negotiate, and collaborate across diverse teams Demonstrated ability to streamline processes and connect the dots across different technology areas Excellent multitasking, prioritization, and stakeholder engagement skills Ability to work non-standard hours as needed to support operational needs Great understanding of Central Insurance's policies and processes Total Rewards Central establishes base pay based on several factors including labor market data and an evaluation of candidate qualifications relative to role requirements.
