As a Hospice Aide/Homemaker, you'll provide compassionate, hands-on care that enhances comfort, dignity, and quality of life for terminally ill patients in their homes and care facilities. This rewarding position is perfect for a caring professional who finds purpose in providing personal care with empathy and respect. You'll be a valued member of our interdisciplinary team, working under the guidance of registered nurses to deliver individualized care that truly matters. What You'll DoProvide Compassionate Personal Care Assist patients with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, and oral hygiene Help with safe transfers, ambulation, and positioning to ensure patient comfort and safety Support patients with toileting and elimination needs while maintaining dignity Monitor and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure Support Nutrition and Comfort Assist with meal preparation and help patients with eating and fluid intake Ensure patients receive adequate nutrition according to their care plan Provide skin care and comfort measures Perform hair care and nail care as needed Ensure Safety and Quality Care Use proper body mechanics and safe transfer techniques with assistive devices Operate equipment safely including Hoyer lifts, wheelchairs, and gait belts Follow fall precautions and respond appropriately to emergency situations Maintain a safe, clean environment in accordance with care standards Communicate and Document Effectively Observe and report changes in patient condition to the supervising RN within 24 hours Document services provided and pertinent findings during each visit Verify assignments, review care plans, and confirm visit times with patients and facilities Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, families, and team members Work as Part of a Team Follow the individualized Hospice Aide Care Plan for each patient Collaborate with RNs, social workers, chaplains, and other team members Attend meetings and participate in ongoing training Adapt flexibly to assignment changes and varying care environments What We're Looking ForRequired Qualifications Completion of minimum 75 hours of classroom and supervised practical training (including at least 16 hours of classroom instruction before practical training) Must hold current certification as a nurse aide and be in good standing on the state nurse aide registry Minimum 1 year of experience as a hospice aide, home health aide, or certified nursing assistant Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions in English Reliable transportation with valid automobile insurance Willingness to travel frequently within the assigned service area Essential Skills and Qualities Understanding of and commitment to the hospice philosophy of care Comfort providing specialized care to terminally ill patients Empathy and compassion for individuals who are ill, frail, or impaired Self-directed with ability to work independently with minimal supervision Calm, empathetic demeanor in emotionally sensitive situations Flexibility and adaptability to handle schedule changes and varying patient needs Strong communication and listening skills Respectful approach to patient dignity and privacy What Makes You Successful You're a compassionate caregiver who finds deep fulfillment in providing comfort during life's most challenging times. Work Environment and Physical Requirements This position requires frequent travel to patient homes and facilities within your service area. You'll need to be comfortable working in different environments and adapting to varying schedules. Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs with assistance), and using proper body mechanics for patient transfers and care activities. Some flexibility with scheduling is needed, as patient care needs and assignments may change. You may occasionally be exposed to infectious materials following proper safety protocols.
