Biosafety Manager

The Biosafety Manager serves as the campus Biosafety Officer (BSO) and acts as the university's subject matter expert for biological safety and biosecurity. The Biosafety Manager is an ex-officio member of the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and advises the committee on best management practices for mitigating biological hazards. The Biosafety Manager will: Act as the Alternate Responsible Official to the High Containment Director and Associate Biosafety Officer for the Select Agent Program Support and oversee the High Containment Director in managing BSL-3 facilities and operations Support and oversee the Vivarium Safety Officer in providing safety services to vivarium staff and researchers working with animals and plants Set schedules and assignments for biological use authorization (BUA) reviews Assign and oversee inspections of laboratories with biological hazards, including animal biocontainment facilities Serve as the primary point of contact during regulatory inspections (NIH, CDC, USDA, etc.) Review and manage the campus medical waste program Provide input for Research Safety Plan reviews Manage biosafety training development Develop and maintain campus documents and policies, including the university Biosafety Manual, Exposure Control Plans, and Standard Operating Procedures and policies We are a company committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments where people can bring their full, authentic selves to work every day. If you need assistance and/or a reasonable accommodation due to a disability during the application or recruiting process, please send a request to learn more about how we collect, keep, and process your private information, please review Insight Global's Workforce Privacy Policy: Required Skills & Experience • Master's Degree in related field (biology, microbiology) • 7+ years of experience in biosafety managing BSL-3 or higher containment facilities • Experience working with vivarium operations and high containment environments, managing risks associated with animal care, zoonotic diseases and infectious agents • 3+ years of management experience in a highly regulated environment - including mentoring and performance management • Experience serving on an Institutional Biosafety Committee and reviewing BUA's • Knowledge of NIH Guidelines and best practices • Strong Budgeting experience • Animal handling experience Nice to Have Skills & Experience • PhD in related field • Higher Education experience • Knowledge of Cal/OSHA bloodborne pathogens standard, Cal/OSHA Aerosol Transmissible Disease Standard, and federal select agent regulations • ABSA Certification • Biosafety registration or certification (RBP or CBSP) Benefit packages for this role will start on the 1st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching.
