Hiring Agency Legislative | Legislative Research Commission Location 702 Capital Ave. Frankfort, KY 40601 USA Description The Legislative Research Commission is accepting applications for the position of Investigations Specialistwith the Office of Education Accountability. This position is nonpartisan in nature and requires the abilityto work with neutrality in a politically charged environment. The Legislative Research Commission provides staff support to the Kentucky General Assembly. The agency offersunique opportunities to people seeking fulfilling, challenging, and rewarding careers. This is a permanent, full-time position with benefits including health and life insurance; retirement plan;and paid holidays, vacation, and sick days. Compensatory time is awarded on an hour-for-hour basis with priorapproval. Job Duties: Responsible for a wide range of duties related to the investigation of education-related complaints. Communicates with Deputy Director on a daily basis regarding investigations. Create and maintain accurate, dependable, and comprehensive investigative reports in Microsoft EXCEL, WORD,and in-house investigative application. Assist in all aspects of the investigations process, including: receiving and logging complaints; updatingcomplaint status (opening a new case, attaching to an existing case, or no review needed); tracking caseactivity, including logging cases initiated, onsite and phone interviews conducted, reports issued, investigationoutcome (allegations substantiated or not substantiated), corrective action/training required, and casesclosed; and reporting of case activity. Compile information for and organize end of month reports: investigator caseload reports, case trackingreports, monthly EAARS reports. Compile information for and organize end of year reports to obtain yearly totals for complaints (# received,# anonymous) and cases (# opened, # closed, and # pending) for OEA Annual Report. Reconcile number of complaints received in the OEA complaint inbox with those recorded in the investigativeapplication on a monthly basis. Log open records requests - record date received, date responded, individual's name making request, and case# of final report(s) sent to individual. Notify LRC Web Masters to update OEA's web page as needed. Develop effective work methods and processes to streamline office operations and improve efficiency. Develop recommendations and enhancements to the in-house investigative application, as needed. Proofread materials for accuracy and style. Attend trainings and professional development opportunities relevant to position. Perform other duties as assigned, including assistance to research division of OEA as that division performsstudies at the direction of EAARS. Desired Skills and Abilities: Strong verbal, writing, and listening skills. Excellent proofreading skills. Ability to maintain confidential records and files. Proficiency with current office technology. Excellent organization and multitasking capability. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Ability to work under pressure and meet specific deadlines. Minimum Requirements EDUCATION:High school diploma or GED and some community college or college coursework. Note: Education may besubstituted for experience and vice versa at the discretion of the manager. EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:Minimum of five years in legislative affairs, business administrative work, research, or a relatedfield. Advanced knowledge of the investigations process and procedures will be given added consideration.
