With almost 40 years of experience, we have extensive expertise in commercial, retail, and themed hotel waterpark resort projects. Our construction footprint spans the Midwest, including Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and Michigan. We are looking for a FIELD CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT (stand-alone or a team leader) to join us for our upcoming projects in the Madison, Wisconsin market. Current projects in the Madison area include developments in Sun Prairie (30 buildings with 200 units) and Deforest (16 buildings with 300 units). Requirements Construction Management: Oversee all project field operations, coordinating subcontractors, material deliveries, and labor within scheduled timelines. Ensure 100% completion of the project punch list within 15 days of receiving the occupancy permit. Manage the project punch list continuously to guarantee a quality finish. Ensure all trades maintain a high standard of quality in the finished project. Complete projects on time as scheduled, monitoring daily progress against milestone dates. Maintain daily communication with the office, providing detailed Field Reports and photo documentation. Keep a log of lessons learned throughout the project and share insights with leadership. Maintain a three-week look-ahead schedule displaying all project milestones. Formulate and forward formal Requests for Information (RFIs) to the relevant consulting firm for responses. Communicate any necessary changes to plan details or specifications to the design manager for inclusion in construction documents. Make field decisions when needed and inform the Project Manager, obtaining prior approval for any cost changes. Collaborate with the Project Manager on budget establishment through Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP). Notify the Project Manager and/or DFO of any concerns regarding critical project dates and collaborate to create recovery schedules as necessary. Conduct shop drawing reviews, requiring significant attention to detail and persistence. Keep general condition line items within or below budget, with monthly review by the Project Manager. Lead on-site Horizon staff effectively. Safety: Identify unsafe working conditions or practices, informing the subcontractor, Project Manager, and Safety Manager, and documenting actions taken. Document any safety violations in accordance with HCG Safety Manual and take corrective measures as necessary. Collect subcontractor Safety Manuals before work commences. Initiate and document pre-construction safety discussions with each subcontractor before their work starts. Request and monitor sufficient Safety Data Sheets for each required subcontractor material not covered in the HCG SDS Book. Seek additional support from the Horizon Safety Manager as needed to manage project safety per the HCG Safety Manual. Perform daily safety checklists and submit them to the office as instructed. Job Qualifications: Minimum of ten years of experience in construction, particularly with large-scale multi-family residential and/or commercial projects, is required. Must have or obtain OSHA30 and First Aid/CPR certifications upon employment. Familiarity with all construction facets, including earthwork, drainage, framing, finishes, and mechanical systems, is essential. High degree of expertise in the construction field is required. Ability to supervise, mentor, and motivate staff; willing to perform any necessary tasks and maintain strong safety practices. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary for effective collaboration with the construction department, third-party contractors, and all team members. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines are critical for success in this position. Strong problem-solving abilities are essential. Physical Demands and Work Environment: The physical demands and characteristics of the work environment described here are representative of what an employee must meet to successfully perform this role. Ability to walk the job site on both even and uneven ground, potentially covering up to 20,000 steps per day. Willingness to work long hours as required, typically 9-10 hours a day, with occasions extending to 12-14 hours when necessary. Ability to walk up and down stairs carrying weights up to 60 pounds. Capability to see long distances and read plan pages and computer screens. Ability to climb ladders ranging from 6-8 feet up to 24 feet. Experience operating machinery such as skid steers and forklifts. Strong communication skills to interact with subcontractors, clients/customer, and team members effectively. Physical capability to move about, reach for items, and lift/move up to 75 pounds. Ability to manage a high level of stress. This is not an exhaustive list.
