Join Our Team - Truck Driver (Full-Time) Amherst County, Virginia | Public Works - Solid Waste Division Are you an experienced driver who enjoys hands-on work and being out on the road? Amherst County is looking for a dependable Truck Driver to help keep our community clean and running smoothly. In this role, you'll operate County trucks and equipment to collect and transport solid waste and recyclables from convenience centers, schools, and other County facilities to the landfill and designated collection sites. What You'll Be Doing: As a Truck Driver in our Solid Waste Division, you'll play an important role in supporting the County's waste management operations. Typical duties include: Operating dump trucks and roll-off trucks to transport waste and recyclables Performing pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and maintaining vehicle condition reports Ensuring compliance with Department of Transportation and County safety regulations Providing basic maintenance and cleanliness for assigned vehicles and containers Maintaining daily route logs and operational reports Assisting with landfill operations and site clean-up as needed Supporting removal and disposal of animal carcasses when required Providing professional, courteous service as a representative of Amherst County What We're Looking For: High school diploma or GED Experience operating heavy motor vehicles (waste management experience preferred) Knowledge of DOT regulations and safe truck operation Ability to perform basic preventive maintenance and minor equipment adjustments Strong teamwork skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and work outdoors in varying weather conditions Special Requirements: Valid Virginia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake endorsement Ability to use a personal smartphone or device to access the County's timekeeping system when working in the field What We Offer: Competitive County salary starting at $50,000+ based on experience and qualifications.
