Join a dynamic team of skilled professionals dedicated to maintaining the operational readiness of vital Naval submarines and aircraft carriers! As a Nuclear Operations Specialist, you will play a crucial role in performing complex technical functions essential to the capabilities of our fleet. Your hands-on expertise will contribute to the operation and maintenance of nuclear propulsion plant machinery, auxiliary equipment that supports Naval reactors, and various electronic, propulsion, and weapons systems. Responsibilities Operate and maintain steam turbines, reduction gears, and auxiliary machinery for nuclear ship propulsion. Manage electrohydraulic steering engines, refrigeration plants, and air conditioning systems. Conduct troubleshooting and maintenance of electrical systems and circuits aboard nuclear-powered vessels. Calibrate nuclear control rods and support the fission process for energy generation. Work Environment As a Nuclear Operations Specialist, you'll experience diverse assignments, whether at sea or ashore, including fast-paced environments aboard submarines or aircraft carriers. Training & Advancement NAVY NUCLEAR FIELD (NF) PROGRAM: Initially complete 7-9 weeks of Recruit Training (Boot Camp), then advance to technical training based on your specific job rating. A School: Specific technical training courses for Machinist's Mate Nuclear, Electrician's Mate Nuclear, or Electronics Technician Nuclear, focusing on core principles and operational procedures. Naval Nuclear Power School (NNPS): Gain comprehensive knowledge of nuclear physics, reactor engineering, and operational systems. Nuclear Power Training Unit (NPTU): Engage in specialized training and develop skills for safe operation of complex Naval nuclear power plants. Exciting promotion opportunities exist based on performance, and you can gain specialized training leading to valuable credentials in related fields. Education Opportunities Through this role, you can earn up to 77 credit hours towards a bachelor's or associate degree. Additionally, take advantage of educational programs such as the Navy College Program and Tuition Assistance, as well as the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Qualifications & Requirements A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, have completed one year of Algebra, and meet security clearance eligibility.
