Job Description

A cadet position, the incumbent will remain in this position until the successful completion of a "Police Academy" and attainment of the TCOLE Police Officer Basic Certification. At that time, the incumbent will move to the Police Officer (P-1) Rank.In accordance with City Policy, the Introductory Period will begin following the successful completion of the academy and attainment of TCOLE Certification, and it will last for a period of one year. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Formal Education:High School Diploma or GED.Training (License and/or Certification):Must be able to be licensed as a peace officer in the state of Texas.Must possess a current, valid Texas driver's license.Other Requirements:· Must be 21 years old or older.· No felony convictions or misdemeanor charges within the past five years.· Good moral character.· Stable employment record, with no history of any conduct that may affect suitability for law enforcement work.· Pass each step of the selection process, which includes: written test, physical fitness test, oral interview board, psychological evaluation, and thorough background investigation.Successful completion of Basic Police Officer Academy (BPOA) and passing of TCOLE by July 1, 2026. Qualified candidates will be notified by e-mail that they are eligible to test. An application may be obtained on the City of Richmond website Step 2: Complete and Submit Part II of the application (Personal History Statement (TCOLE) Applicants will prepare all required documentation needed to accompany part II of the application (Personal History Statement (TCOLE) and submit it to Lieutenant Lowell Neinast at the conclusion of the Written Test.Step 3: Written Exam (Applicants will be notified of the next testing date)Report on the date, time, and location for the written Exam. (No late entry to the testing location.) The passing score is 70% or higher.Upon successfully completing the written test, the applicant will meet with Lieutenant Lowell Neinast to review Part I and Part II of the application (Personal History Statement (TCOLE) and submit all required documentation.Step 4: Oral Interview Board (Applicants will be notified of the date and time for the oral interview) Final Steps: Background Investigation, Chief Interview, Conditional Job Offer, Psychological Examination, pre-employment physical, controlled substance screening, fingerprinting, and any other testing as required by the police academy.
