Job Description

The role of a Culinary Operations Specialist is essential for the comfort and sustenance of Navy personnel. You will be responsible for preparing diverse menus, managing food inventories, and overseeing financial records in dynamic kitchen and dining environments. As a Culinary Operations Specialist, your impact on the morale of the ship will be significant. Responsibilities: Designing and preparing meal menus tailored to the needs of personnel. Managing kitchen and dining facilities effectively. Maintaining accurate subsistence inventories and financial documentation. Providing high-quality personal food service in officers' and admirals' messes. Overseeing and managing living quarters aboard ships and at shore bases. Acting as a flight attendant aircrewman as needed. What to Expect: You will work in various environments, including kitchens, living quarters, and dining areas on ships and at shore bases. This role is both physically and mentally demanding, requiring teamwork and strong interpersonal skills. Work Environment: Approximately 60% of your career will be spent on fleet units while 40% will be at shore stations. Your work areas will range from fast-paced shipboard galleys to mess decks and shore-based facilities that demand attention to detail. Training & Advancement: After completing Recruit Training, you will attend a seven-week training course in Fort Lee, VA, covering food preparation, nutrition, and dining service practices. Advancement opportunities are available for dedicated individuals, with advanced training offered throughout your career. Education Opportunities: You can earn college credits through the American Council on Education for courses related to this job. The US Naval Community College also provides degree programs supporting your educational growth. Qualifications & Requirements: Be 18 years of age or older. Legally authorized to work in the United States. Strong team player with an enthusiasm for culinary arts and nutrition. Excellent arithmetic and verbal skills. Able to follow detailed instructions and maintain accurate records. This role requires military service as a commissioned officer in the Navy.
