Subsidiary OmniSource Overview The Environmental Manager position is responsible for leading, implementing, and maintaining the overall environmental compliance efforts, initiatives, and performance for all OmniSource scrap metal yards in various states. ResponsibilitiesEnsures environmental performance and compliance by maintaining knowledge of all applicable environmental regulations and compliance reporting, with daily oversight and management of Environmental Technician(s) and all facility environmental compliance programs specific to air, storm water, waste, hazardous chemicals, radiation, etc. Works collaboratively with environmental technicians, corporate, plant staff, and outside consultants to develop, recommend, implement, and maintain policies, procedures and programs that meet all applicable standards/regulations Development, implementation, and communication of employee training programs that support good environmental practices and ensure compliance with regulations Performs frequent plant audits to detect unsound environmental practices and conditions. Develops and implements corrective and preventive actions to address/eliminate findings Gathers, evaluates, and maintains analytical data and other environmental information to assess site compliance Provides guidance, feedback, and leadership during facility project planning, corporate initiatives, on-site environmental emergency response situations, and/or for incidents that occur during the off-site shipment of material Completes all required local, state and federal environmental forms, reports, and surveys in a timely and accurate manner Other special assignments or projects relating to Environmental Compliance, as necessary Specific Functions Provide environmental support and guidance to operations in all applicable compliance areas, including, but not limited to, the following: Stormwater: Prepare Annual Updates, including SPCC, Coordinate Storm Water Sampling, Reporting/Renewals/Fees & Invoices Air: Prepare & submit all applicable permit reports, applications, registrations, and renewals to state agencies, assist operations and provide support with refrigerant management and evacuation program Hazardous Chemical Reporting (Sara Title III Tier II) for locations in various states Environmental Compliance Audits: Conduct, prepare, and communicate results of internal comprehensive facility compliance audits Waste Disposal: Coordinate and manage special/solid waste disposal approvals for each facility QualificationsRequired Environmental, Engineering or Operations management education and/or experience Heavy Industrial setting experience with the ability to navigate through and have an understanding of applicable environmental regulations that impact each facility Strong leadership, project management, organization, and planning skills in order to develop and then implement an aggressive, forward-thinking, and cohesive plan to improve and maintain environmental compliance Strong persuasion and motivation skills, as well as ability to work across all disciplines and employee levels Strong communication skills with the ability to accurately write technical reports, communicate with employees, provide constructive feedback, and maintain positive employee relations Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and Word) Preferred Associates or Bachelor's degree in an Environmental-related field Experience with preparing, managing, and evaluating compliance programs within a heavy industrial setting ACAD or other drafting software is a plus Completion of environmental-related training and/or any existing Environmental Certifications is a plus Steel Dynamics, Inc., and all affiliated entities are equal opportunity employers.
