Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Respiratory Therapist Discipline: Allied Health Professional Start Date: 03/08/2026 Duration: 12 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours Employment Type: Travel Respiratory Therapist - RRT Job Profile Summary The licensed RRT is responsible to administer basic and advance cardiopulmonary treatment to patients in all areas of the hospital. Services include: bronchial hygiene, positive pressure ventilation, airway clearance and maintenance, life support ventilation, blood gas analysis and acquisition, pulmonary function screening, incentive breathing exercises, oxygen therapy, aerosol/humidity therapy, prescription medication delivery, pulse oximetry, spontaneous pulmonary mechanics, emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and patient assessment. The licensed RRT must be able to adapt to the rules and regulations of different service areas, perform special duties as required by assignment and maintain standards of performance for each area assigned. Job Description Major Responsibilities: Registered Respiratory Therapist/Patient Relationship: Performs patient assessment to ensure appropriate and effective measures are performed. 1)Reviews/verifies physician orders. Notifies physician in situations of incomplete, conflicting or inappropriate orders. 2)Assesses appropriateness of order and recommends a case plan in regards to patient diagnosis/status. 3)Modalities include but are not limited to mechanical ventilation, BiLevel, airway management, bronchoscopy assist, arterial blood gas acquisition and analysis, routine pulse oximetry, administration of supplemental oxygen/aerosol therapy, and bronchial hygiene procedures including nebulized medications administration. 4)Attends/participates in multidisciplinary patient rounding with Intensivist in the ICU. 5)Responds to Code Blue, RRT, Trauma and other emergent calls 6)Documents accurately, concisely in computerized medical record (McKesson HED). 7)Documents accurately on patient kardex for accurate input of patient charges by support staff. 8) Provides mechanical ventilation, CPAP, Blood Gas Analysis, Oxygen therapy, etc. to neonates in the Level II Special Care Nursery. • Assuring/Improving Quality: Maintain quality, effectiveness of care. 1)Participates in continuous Quality Improvement/Performance Improvement (CQI/PI) programms as required. 2) Incorporates standards of care into practice following best practice and AARC Clinical Practice Guidelines. 3)Identifies patient/family concerns and communicates information to Nursing staff, Discharge Planner, Physician. 4)Identifies current literature in area of practice. 5)Maintains Blood Gas Laboratory in accordance with College of American Pathologists (C.A.P.) standards 6)Participates on/provides input to various committees as requested. Patient/Staff Education/Orientation: Demonstrates a commitment to learning needs of patients and staff. 25% 1)Identifies patient learning needs. Initiate teaching using respiratory protocols, patient care standards, and plan of care. 2)Recognizes own abilities and contributes to a "learning " environment. 3)Participates in patient education initiatives. 4)Obtains a minimum of 12 CEU's annually. 5)Attends clinical inservices (internal/external) in order to maintain clinical knowledge base. 6) May assist with department educational needs. 7)May act as instructor/mentor to respiratory therapy students, pararnedic students. Demonstrates the use of standard Respiratory practices as a model of care 1)Completes assessments, reviews orders and performs modalities in a timely, professional manner. 2)Prioritizes and organizes assigned procedures to ensure continuity of care. 3)Promotes patient safety by reporting of issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives. 4) Utilizes resources to maintain standards of clinical respiratory model. 5)Provides concise shift report to oncoming shift for continuity of care. Leadership/Professional Development: Demonstrates respect and understanding for peers and other clinical disciplines. Acts as a member of the patient care team. Demonstrates professional behaviors and is committed to self development. 1)Contributes to effective operations of the department. 2)Sets professional development goals with guidance from management team. 3)Seeks opportunity for professional growth. 4)Demonstrates effective communication and feedback skills. 5)May act in a "lead " or Charge Therapist role as assigned. 6)Serves as a role model to new orientees and students. Licensure: • Respiratory Care Practitioner Education/Experience Required: 1. Graduate of an AMA approved programn for Respiratory Care. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: 1. Strong interpersonal, clinical, problem solving, team building and communication skills. 2. Must work well under stressful situations. 1. RRT. 2. Current BLS. 3.Licensed RCP in Illinois. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: N/A If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. YES ● Patient Types/Common Diagnoses: · COVID, COPD, ETOH detox, Overdose patients, ARDS, Pneumonia, Influenza, CHF, Lung CA, Stroke, RSV, trach patients, trach patients on vent ● Patient Ratios: · 1:1 ● Required Licensure & Certifications: · Is State Licensure and/or National Certification required?
