Admin Support (Non-Clinical) Medical Secretary Family Medicine Plymouth - Ann Arbor Road Medical Center - 40777 Ann Arbor Road Plymouth MI 48170 Full Time - 40 Hours - Day Shift General Summary Under direct supervision from a leader on the Leadership Salary Plan grade up to and including M07, provides administrative and medical operations support to designated clinical department(s). Utilizes knowledge of medical terminology and procedures in a hospital, clinic, or laboratory environment. Supports daily departmental operations and may assist with special projects as assigned. Principal Duties And Responsibilities Provides administrative support to clinical and operational staff to support efficient department workflow. Answers and directs incoming phone calls, greets patients and visitors, and provides information with courtesy and professionalism. Schedules and coordinates patient appointments and maintains provider schedules and calendars as needed. Assists with processing referrals, prior authorizations, and other care coordination tasks as appropriate. Enters, updates, and maintains patient information in the electronic medical record system. Distributes departmental mail, correspondence, and other materials as required. Prepares and maintains departmental records, documents, and files in accordance with organizational policies. Communicates effectively with physicians, clinical staff, patients, and external partners to support patient care and department operations. Utilizes Microsoft Office applications and other systems to complete administrative tasks and support reporting needs. Participates in departmental projects and performs other related duties as assigned. Education/Experience Required High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required. One (1) year of experience within a medical office setting preferred. Literacy and experience working with Microsoft software programs required. Familiarity with medical terminology required. Previous experience scheduling appointments and maintaining calendars preferred. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with callers, visitors, and staff while providing information requiring courtesy and tact. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system. Experience with referrals, scheduling, and/or prior authorizations. Previous experience supporting clinical or administrative operations within a healthcare setting.
