The Role The Medical Imaging Physicist will play a crucial role in supporting imaging centers and hospital departments, including radiology, radiation oncology, and cardiology. Your main responsibilities will include: Conducting evaluations of a wide variety of imaging systems across different modalities to ensure compliance with state regulations and accreditation requirements. Assessing and characterizing image quality to confirm optimal performance levels of imaging equipment. Providing expert consultation on facility design, shielding requirements, and evaluating both patient and occupational radiation exposure. What You'll Do Perform routine audits of compliance records related to equipment registration, regulations, and radiation protection programs. Conduct annual performance evaluations for various imaging systems including fluoroscopy, radiography, mammography, CT, MRI, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine cameras. Oversee and review technologist quality control programs. Attend scheduled hospital Radiation Safety Committee (RSC) and Radiation Protocol Committee (RPC) meetings. Consult and provide guidance regarding occupational and patient over-exposures. Assist in managing clinical protocols, dose assessments, and review aspects of the Radiation Protection Program. Enhance hospital training by providing or reviewing radiation safety and magnet safety training for ancillary staff and technologists. Analyze occupational dosimetry reports and consult when ALARA levels are exceeded. Evaluate public exposure surrounding x-ray rooms and assess installed supplemental shielding. Provide design consultation regarding shielding requirements and assess integrity and adequacy of shielding. Perform additional duties as required. What You'll Need A board certification by the American Board of Radiology in Diagnostic Medical Physics or board eligibility demonstrated by graduation from a CAMPEP accredited residency. Clinical experience in diagnostic imaging, knowledge of radiation safety, and development of operating procedures. Technical understanding of state regulations, ACR, and TJC compliance criteria. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with a strong commitment to client and colleague support. Proactive, organized, and responsible approach to daily tasks and projects. Adept problem-solving skills, with a focus on developing and implementing effective solutions. Physical Requirements This role can be physically demanding. Expect to stay stationary for extended periods, wear lead aprons, lift various test equipment, and move mobile diagnostic medical equipment. You must be able to lift 50 lb test equipment cases and transport them into client facilities. The position involves frequent communication with colleagues and clients and daily use of computers and other electronic equipment, with potential evening or weekend work.
