Project Manager, Ocean Chartering The Ocean Chartering Manager is responsible for managing and developing ocean chartering activities within the freight forwarding and logistics organization. This role supports project cargo, breakbulk, and heavy-lift shipments by sourcing vessels, negotiating charter agreements, and delivering tailored shipping solutions to customers. The position combines commercial strategy, operational execution, and market development while working closely with internal stakeholders, carriers, and customers. Duties and Responsibilities Chartering & Commercial Management Manage end-to-end ocean chartering activities, including vessel sourcing, rate negotiation, booking, and contract execution Develop and maintain strong relationships with vessel owners, operators, and brokers Negotiate charter party terms, freight rates, and contractual conditions to ensure commercial competitiveness and compliance Act as the primary point of contact for chartering inquiries from regional and global offices Project & Operational Support Support complex project cargo, breakbulk, and heavy-lift shipments by designing optimal chartering solutions Coordinate closely with operations, engineering, and project logistics teams to ensure safe and efficient execution Monitor vessel performance, schedules, and operational risks throughout the shipment lifecycle Ensure adherence to company policies, safety standards, and applicable maritime regulations Market Development & Stakeholder Engagement Develop and grow the chartering business within assigned regions or trade lanes Collaborate with sales teams to support customer tenders, proposals, and client meetings Identify new market opportunities and support strategic growth initiatives Travel as required to visit internal offices, customers, and industry partners Reporting & Governance Maintain accurate records of charter agreements, fixtures, and commercial documentation Provide market intelligence, rate trends, and performance reporting to management Ensure compliance with BIMCO contracts and standard maritime terms and conditions Educational background / Work experience Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Maritime Studies, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience) Several years of experience in ocean chartering within freight forwarding, shipping, or project logistics Proven experience handling project cargo, breakbulk, and/or heavy-lift shipments Strong working knowledge of BIMCO contracts (e.g., GENCON, NYPE, BALTIME, CONLINE) Solid understanding of the multipurpose and project vessel market Skills & Competencies Strong commercial and negotiation skills Ability to work independently while collaborating in a global, cross-functional environment Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Preferred Qualifications Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent Experience with Lean Six Sigma methodologies Familiarity with the transportation and logistics industry, including regulatory requirements and market trends Language skills Fluent in English (oral and written) Computer Literacy Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Familiarity with project management software, such as Microsoft Project or similar tools Required Travel Travel up to approximately 30 days per year, primarily within North and South America, to visit offices and support business development efforts. Actual base compensation will be determined based on various factors including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
