Position Type: School Support Staff/Secretary Date Posted: 2/18/2026 Location: Grand Junction High School Date Available: 2026-27 Closing Date: 02/23/2026 Job Title: Principal's Secretary - High School Pay Program: Support Staff FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: Principal, High School Pay Range: CH 13 $24.13 - $26.88 Work Year: Year Round (260 Days / 8 Hours) VISION: To Engage, Equip, and Empower Each and Every Student, Each and Every Day. SUMMARY: Operating under the general supervision of the school's Principal or Designee, the employee will perform a variety of administrative and executive secretarial duties for the Principal and school. Employee acts as a technical resource for others inside the district including administrators, staff, teachers, and students which requires interpreting policies while providing information. This position is also often a first point of contact for the public, staff, students, and parents and must work cooperatively to facilitate these interactions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Coordinates and oversees the operations of the administrative offices at the assigned high school. This position is the main support to building leadership coordinating meetings, scheduling appointments, and routing calls/emails while also promoting a professional office decorum. A wide range of administrative knowledge is required in order to assist other office staff and also to cover in their absence. Employee often participates in the documentation required for a suspension and/or expulsion including parent notifications. This position is a liaison for school administration facilitating all staff travel requests and transportation coordination for athletics and activities as needed. Other responsibilities vary by school needs but may include duties such as, time clock reporting, tracking staff absences with reporting, coordinating classified and certified substitute coverage, and supervising student aides. 2. Performs various administrative duties to assist the school Principal(s). This may include providing a daily schedule with appointments, scheduling and maintaining the school calendar, or taking and preparing meeting minutes. The highest level of confidentiality and professionalism is expected of this position as duties assisting the Principal involve highly sensitive topics including personnel issues, student concerns, and other sensitive subject matter. 3. Preparing and participating in the development of a variety of school materials including the school newsletter, handbooks, award certificates, and programs. Newsletter and other materials may be printed and/or updated electronically to the school webpage. Updates to the school webpage may also be assigned to this position. Public relations duties may also include working on the graduation and/or awards ceremonies. 4. Oversees the ordering, tracking, receiving, expensing, and processing of supplies, materials, and merchandise requests from school's internal departments. Purchases are made using a variety of processes including purchase orders, Pcard transactions, restricted accounts, and others. These duties may be shared with other office personnel. 5. Assumes the responsibility for seamless continuation of the SBA/Finance Secretary duties in their absence, especially during the interim period between calendar years. SBA/Finance duties may be shared, delegated between office staff, or assumed solely by one individual in accordance with building leadership direction. Principal's secretary duties include maintaining the processes for Student Body Accounts (SBA) including but not limited to; processing and recording disbursements with petty cash, restricted checks and school procurement cards, as well as recording and preparing bank deposits and accounts payable payments. 6. Coordinating a variety of cyclical activities this position works with other building personnel to arrange for teachers' August return to the building, assisting with the International Baccalaureate Program when applicable, and working on all aspects of the graduation ceremony. 7. Performs other duties as assigned. Building leadership allows for flexibility in assigning duties and this position often shares some level of responsibility with other staff members for operational tasks. EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent and including courses in office technology and office skills Minimum of two years' experience in an office position; experience in School Secretary position preferred Bilingual oral and written skills English/Spanish is desirable Prior experience in accounting and/or bookkeeping preferred LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS: Criminal background check required for hire Valid Colorado Driver's License required CPR and First Aid certifications required within 90 days of hire TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES: Exceptional customer service, listening, and public relations skills Exceptional oral communication and phone etiquette skills Well-developed interpersonal relationship building skills Strong written communication skills Intermediate personal computer and keyboarding skills Basic Math, Bookkeeping and Accounting skills Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions in a timely manner Ability to be adaptable and flexible with critical thinking and problem solving capabilities Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies and building and department procedures. Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
