What You'll DoBasic duties in outpatient oncology infusion setting include but are not limited to: Preparing, filling and delivering medication orders for oncology patients under the direct supervision of a pharmacist Performing sterile compounding of hazardous and non-hazardous medications in compliance with USP and USP standards Assisting with preparation of chemotherapy agents and other infusion therapies while following appropriate safety protocols Handling, labeling, and disposing of hazardous medications in accordance with regulatory and safety guidelines Demonstrating proficiency with equipment and software What We're Looking For Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. 2 Year / Associate Degree (required for validating duties), preferred. Experience: Acute Care: Prior experience in a minimum of three pharmacy skills (examples may include but are not limited to the following activities: medication distribution, sterile compounding, medication listing, controlled substance accountability, highly privileged ADS, validating duties and/or procurement)...OR...hired as a Pharmacy Tech II Certified, have 2 years experience in acute care and now competently performing a third pharmacy skill as described above. Required. Outpatient Oncology: Prior experience in a minimum of three pharmacy skills (examples may include but are not limited to the following activities: medication distribution, sterile compounding, medication listing, controlled substance accountability, highly privileged ADS, and/or procurement)...OR...hired as a Pharmacy Tech II Certified, have 2 years experience in acute care or oncology setting, and now competently performing a third pharmacy skill as described above. Required. Specialty Pharmacy: Minimum of two years of experience in specialty pharmacy setting, required. Licensure/Certification: Current registry with applicable State Board(s) of Pharmacy, required. PTCB or NHA Certification within 60 days of hire or proof of enrollment in pharmacy school (i.e., NCBOP pharmacy intern license or FPGEE/FPGEC), required. A minimum of two relevant specialized certificates/certifications from approved vendors such as PTCB, BPTS or NPTA (examples include but are not limited to, product verification, medication history, hazardous drug management, billing/reimbursement, controlled substances diversion prevention, medication therapy management, sterile compounding)...or...one additional certificate/certification for technicians with Validating Tech credentials (NC). The additional certificates/certifications must be obtained within 12 months of hire and maintained as applicable. Not applicable if currently enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy with an active NCBOP pharmacy intern license. Required. Additional Skills Required: State registration and/or evidence of renewal is required for Technicians fifteen days prior to expiration and Technicians are required to be either certified through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA), or be actively enrolled in an accredited pharmacy school with an active NCBOP pharmacy intern license, or be active in Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) or Foreign Equivalency Certification (FPGEC). Considerable knowledge and application of basic math skills, including ratio and proportion relationships; strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Basic technology skills. Other duties as outlined in Novant Health and facility specific policies and procedures. Ability to drive/travel to multiple facilities/locations as needed. Ability to work as part of a high performing, change ready and resilient team. Validating duties (NC only): must complete initial didactic and practical training prior to initial validation. Must obtain 99.7% accuracy rate on initial validation and 99% accuracy in subsequent audits.Not applicable if currently enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy with an active NCBOP pharmacy intern license. Additional Skills Preferred: Considerable knowledge of medication names (both trade and generic) and their doses, routes of administration, and adverse effects; the ability to demonstrate patient interview skills and strong written and verbal communication skills with other healthcare professionals.
