Northeast Missouri Electric Power Cooperative (Northeast Power) has an opening for a Substation Technician Intern at the Palmyra, Missouri, location. Northeast Power is a transmission cooperative delivering power to northeast Missouri and southeast Iowa. This is a paid summer internship starting in May 2026 and ending in August 2026. The standard work schedule follows a 4-day, 10-hour shift, Monday through Thursday. Some flexibility in workdays and hours may be required based on project needs and assignments. What You Will Do: This internship provides a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in substation maintenance, electrical systems and utility infrastructure. As a Substation Technician Intern, you'll support a skilled team in the installation, testing and repair of substation equipment and electrical systems. In this role, you will: • Assist with conduit and cable installation in substation and field environments • Support cable and wire terminations according to specifications and safety standards • Participate in inspections of electrical substations and components • Assist with testing of substation electrical equipment such as transformers, breakers and relays • Help perform basic repairs and maintenance on electrical systems and equipment • Contribute to lighting installation, maintenance, and replacement tasks • Follow all applicable safety protocols and procedures What We Are Looking For: We are looking for a safety-minded and detail-oriented intern with a strong interest in electrical systems, substation operations and fieldwork. This is a valuable opportunity for someone pursuing a future in electrical technology, energy infrastructure or industrial maintenance. In addition, we are looking for: • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a formal educational program, such as an Associate's degree, certificate, or other recognized training program, related to Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance or a similar technical field. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred • Basic knowledge of electrical components, circuitry and safety practices • Comfortable working outdoors and in active utility or substation environments • Ability to read and interpret technical instructions or schematics is a plus • Strong work ethic, willingness to learn and ability to follow direction
