Job Description: The Senior Associate Dean of Clinical Education provides strategic leadership and oversight for the development, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the clinical components of the COM's medical education curriculum. This individual is responsible for the recruitment, support, and evaluation of clinical training sites and clinical faculty who deliver the COM's clinical instructional programs. Working closely with the Dean and the Chief Academic Officer (CAO), this academic leader ensures that high-quality medical education is delivered consistently and equitably to all students; that clinical partners fully implement the curriculum as designed by the COM; that a robust QA/QI process advances educational excellence and faculty development; and that the COM maintains and supports its clinical training sites to meet all professional expectations as well as accreditation, legal, and regulatory standards. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Curriculum Development and Oversight Lead the continuous review, innovation, and enhancement of the clinical components of the medical education curriculum to ensure alignment with professional expectations and evolving healthcare needs. Collaborate with the Associate Deans for Preclinical Education, faculty, and curriculum committees to develop and implement a comprehensive, integrated curriculum across all years of medical training. Participate in assessing and evaluating of curricular effectiveness, student performance, quality and consistency of clinical training sites, and program outcomes. Along with other key leaders, oversee success with a QA/QI process for the programs and faculty to ensure desired outcomes in both internal assessments and external measurements (board pass rates). Clinical Education and Clerkships Work closely with the Assistant Dean for Clinical Education and the Associate Dean for Pre-Clinical Experiences to oversee and direct clinical instructional programs, including core clerkships, electives, opportunities and requirements for scholarly activity and research in clinical settings and clinical skills training as well as the knowledge and skill that must be developed during the preclinical years to foster success in clinical education and be prepared to move into GME. Foster strong relationships and collaboration with affiliated teaching hospitals, clinics, and healthcare systems to ensure high-quality clinical training experiences are available the fulfil the demands of the COM's curriculum, its regulatory standards and the professional expectation of the Osteopathic Profession. Work with the Assistant Dean for Clinical Education and Associate Dean for Pre-Clinical Experiences to ensure compliance with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements for clinical education programs, success on board examinations and preparation for entry into GME programs. Collaborate with Clerkship Directors and faculty to promote the integration of didactic education and clinical clerkship experiences. Faculty Development and Support Work with faculty to enhance teaching skills, curriculum design, and assessment methods through a QA/QI process of assessment and education. Foster an environment that supports and recognizes excellence in medical education and teaching. Graduate Medical Education (GME) Work with the Assistant Dean of GME to evaluate and support opportunities for GME creation. Working with the Assistant Dean for Clinical Education and the Assistant Dean of GME, provide leadership and support for program directors, faculty, and residents in all aspects of GME. Strategic Planning and Leadership Serve as a member of the senior leadership team and contribute to the overall strategic direction of KHSU-KansasCOM. Represent KHSU-KansasCOM on relevant internal and external committees and organizations related to medical education and GME. Collaborate with other academic leaders, healthcare partners, and stakeholders to advance the KHSU-KansasCOM 's mission and goals. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversees clinical education programs development, delivery and assessment, clinical training for students, clinical faculty development and assessment for the OMS-III and OMS-IV years for KansasCOM. QUALIFICATION(S): D.O., M.D., or D.O.-M.D./Ph.D. degree from an accredited institution. Must have or have a history of board certification in a clinical specialty during career. Must have or have a history of having active, unrestricted license at some time during career. Experience in medical education; curriculum development, program development and assessment, academic leadership roles. Eligibility for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in an appropriate clinical department.
