Salary: $18.50 Hourly Location : Desert Hot Springs, CA Job Type: Temporary/Seasonal Job Number: 2026-0209 Department: Recreation Opening Date: 02/10/2026 Max Number of Applicants: 100 Description This position is part-time seasonal. Position duration is summer of 2026. Under close supervision of the management, performs professional duties ensuring effective performance of lifeguard functions. Assists in hiring, training, and scheduling lifeguards. Ensure that all lifeguards are fully competent in performing water rescue procedures and coordinates in ensuring the safety of patrons in and around the aquatic facility and monitoring swimmers and enforcing all safety rules. Examples of Duties Performs all lifeguard responsibilities including monitoring pool activities, applying first aid, and performing water rescues as necessary. Ensure all swimmers are well supervised in the pool and on decks. Fills in for lifeguards as necessary. Prepare related records and reports as required. Orients new lifeguards. Ensures that all lifeguards are current on their training and certifications. Schedules, coordinates and conducts in-service training. Ensures that lifeguards are fully competent in first aid. CPR, and all water rescues techniques. Schedules lifeguards to ensure adequate coverage of pool are maintained during operating hours. Ensure lifeguards perform in accordance with established safety regulations and policies. Keeps management well informed of pool maintenance needs including cleaning, chemical adjustments and repairs. Interfaces with patrons regarding concerns, problems, or any other significant issues. Provides input and feedback while responding to problems. Ensures that aquatic programs are occurring as desired and assists with the overall management of swimming events. Performs related duties as required. Typical QualificationsEducation, Training, Certification and Experience Guidelines Must be at least 18 years of age Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Two (2) years lifeguard experience and previous lifeguard supervisory experience preferred. Must possess a valid American Red Cross certificate in Lifeguard Training, including First Aid Must possess American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification. Possession of a current Title 22 Certification is desirable, but not required. Knowledge of Principles and practices of swimming pool operations. Rules and regulations of the Aquatic Center. Principles and practices of preventative lifeguarding, water rescues, first aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation Providing efficient customer service and establishing and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted including City and Government Officials, Community Groups, and the General Public. Swimming with proficiency and endurance; maintaining constant observation of patrons to identify signs of danger and taking effective course of action. Ability to Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions. Remain alert, attentive, and responsible. Maintain accurate records. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Work independently Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
