Job description Position Description: Saint Mary's Hall seeks a skilled and dynamic Middle School Social Science teacher (7th Grade) with a passion for teaching in this content area to middle school students. The ideal candidate will embody a growth-mindset and support developmentally appropriate competencies to the diverse community of learners represented at Saint Mary's Hall. Responsibilities: • Teach five classes in the Middle School, providing effective and professional classroom instruction and relevant assessment. • Serve as advisor to a small group of students. • Serve as a faculty sponsor to Student Leadership organizations such as Councils and Clubs. • Assess student abilities through the lens of growth mindset and global competencies. • Establish regular and effective communication with students and parents. • Engage regular professional development and identify growth-based goals. • Participate in required non-classroom activities including but not limited to parent/teacher conferences, special activities, and performance events. • Assist in curriculum coordination and design across the divisions. • Contribute to a school culture where all community members are seen, safe, and valued. • Participate in all required departmental, divisional, and All-Staff meetings. Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in History or a related field required; advanced degree preferred. • Passion for the subject matter and for working with bright, motivated students in a rigorous, college-preparatory environment. • Demonstrated record of a creative and innovative approach to curriculum development and implementation. • Successful Middle or Upper School teaching experience preferred. • Demonstrated commitment to student well-being and partnership with student support services. • Independent School experience preferred. Physical Requirements and Work Environment • Work in a fast-paced environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and diverse array of contacts. • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods. • Must be able to teach, instruct, and communicate with students, parents, coworkers, visitors, and other professionals. • Have a good working knowledge of instructional technology equipment. • Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled environment. • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
