Crossing Guard Salary: $16.50 hourly. Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Status: Non-Exempt / Timesheet required. Annual Days: 190 General Purpose: The School Crossing Guard is responsible for assisting school children crossing major traffic thoroughfares in designated school zones. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assists children at street crossing zones Directs children to crossing zones and ensures traffic is stopped in order to allow children to cross the street Assists in maintaining a safe atmosphere for school children in and around school crossing zones Instructs the children on safe conduct when crossing in a school zone Records and reports vehicles driving recklessly and at high rates of speed Administers basic first aid to injured pedestrians Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred. Reads and writes and follows oral and written instructions. Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine the proper course of action Ability to follow and understand oral and written instructions Ability to deal with others firmly, courteously, tactfully and with respect Ability to establish friendly relationships with youth and parents Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations Knowledge of safety rules which can be taught to young pedestrian Knowledge of school procedures when dealing with uncooperative students. Experience: Job requires no previous experience. Training will be provided. Hours generally fall within the following parameters: Monday - Friday: 7:00 - 8:15 A.M., Monday - Thursday: 2:45 - 4:00 P.M., and Friday: 12:45 - 2:00 P.M.
