If so, we have the opportunity for you! Upper Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation (UCEMC) is seeking an Accounting Clerk to join our Administrative Services team in Carthage. Job Summary: The Accounting Clerk is responsible for maintaining complete and accurate financial records in accordance with established cooperative and RUS accounting policies and procedures. This position processes daily cash receipts, prepares deposits, posts payments to member accounts, and assists in maintaining customer accounting systems. Responsibilities also include balancing daily receipts, producing daily cash sheets, generating bills and notices, processing bank drafts and refund checks, assisting with month-end reports, answering member inquiries via email and phone, and preparing scheduling calendars for meter readings and cut-offs. This position requires strict confidentiality of member information, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with limited supervision. Job Requirements: Minimum high school diploma or GED required, with emphasis in bookkeeping, general business, and computer operations Working knowledge of accounting principles; familiarity with RUS accounting principles preferred Minimum one year of accounting experience preferred, preferably in a utility setting Experience in customer accounting operations preferred Ability to operate standard office equipment and have basic knowledge of mathematics Strong organizational skills and attention to detail High level of accuracy and attention to detail is required Must be able to work under stress and maintain confidentiality of member information Ability to research information and analyze data to solve problems Ability to work efficiently with limited supervision Willingness to rotate among accounting section duties Willingness to participate in additional training in accounting principles Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certification Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, and lift up to 25 pounds Ability to respond to call-outs and work extended hours, including weekends and holidays when required Valid Tennessee driver's license Benefits: 401(k) with company matching Health, dental, and vision insurance Paid vacation and sick days Paid holidays Competitive salary Opportunities for advancement Apply Today! Principal Objectives of the Position The Accounting Clerk is responsible for providing complete and accurate financial records and reports in accordance with established Cooperative and RUS accounting policies and procedures. II. Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities A. Opens all incoming cash receipts mail daily ensuring checks and stubs reflect the same amounts and noting date to determine whether discount is allowed. B. Balances all cash receipts and stubs daily by running separate tapes and reconciling. C. Stamps all checks and prepares the daily deposit by noon each day. D. Posts all daily receipts to consumer accounts and balances, including payments received by ACH. E. Produces the daily cash sheet and records all results. F. Performs the following duties necessary to maintain accurate customer accounting and information systems: generates bills, notices, refund checks, collections, bank drafts, night jobs, and month-end reports, and prepares calendars to schedule these events. G. Performs and/or assists the Manager of Customer Accounting and Information Systems in the daily functions of managing the mainframe system. For example, performing daily backups and correcting problems with equipment. H. Answers customer service questions received via e-mail and telephone. I. Maintains office supplies for all Cooperative departments. J. Prepares calendars scheduling meter readings and cut-offs for district offices. K. Assists district offices in troubleshooting hardware and software problems. L. Performs maintenance to member accounts such as, bank drafts, green power, heat pump loans, project help, and other contracts. M. Performs other such duties as requested or required from time to time. N. Attends and participates in safety meetings scheduled by the cooperative as required. III. Skills and Abilities A. Must be able to operate standard office equipment. B. Must be able to research information and analyze data to arrive at valid conclusions. C. Must be able to quickly learn various software packages. D. Must be able to work in an organized manner. E. Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of member information. F. Must be willing to rotate among all positions of the accounting section. G. Must be willing to participate in additional training in accounting principles and computer operations. H. Must be able to analyze and solve problems. I. Must be able to analyze account activity. J. Must be able to work efficiently with limited supervision. K. Must be certified in basic first aid and CPR in accordance with the Cooperative policies and procedures. IV. Knowledge A. Must possess basic knowledge of mathematics. B. Must possess working knowledge of accounting principles, including RUS accounting principles. C. Must possess knowledge of Cooperative processes and operations. V. Physical Requirements Visual acuity and manual dexterity are required, as well as the ability to listen and communicate with peoples both within and outside Upper Cumberland Electric Membership Cooperation. Constantly sits or stands, walks, bends, stoops, squats and lifts up to twenty-five pounds. Repetitive motions with hands and fingers are required. Must be able to read, write and do math. A high level of accuracy and attention to detail is required. Must be able to work under stress and maintain confidentiality. VI. Working Conditions Primarily works in a climate controlled office; may occasionally be exposed to temperature variances. Generally works eight hours a day five days a week. Responds immediately to 24 hour call-out and works extra hours as required, including weekends, nights and holidays. Drives throughout the cooperative's service area and beyond; and is sometimes required to travel overnight outside the cooperative's service area. VII. Internal Contacts Maintains on-going communications with the Director of Administrative Services and other members of the Administrative Services Department, as well as other Cooperative personnel, to ensure appropriate personnel are informed of relevant activities, events and issues. VIII. External Contacts Communicates with the following effectively and in a professional manner: Members, Cooperative vendors, and Outside technical support specialists. IX. Minimum Qualifications Education Minimum of high school diploma or GED equivalent is required, with emphasis in bookkeeping or general business, and computer operations. Training in computer hardware and software is preferred. Experience Minimum of one (1) year previous work experience in accounting for a utility is preferred.
