The role involves managing patients with general medical conditions. Common diagnoses include diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory issues, renal problems, and wounds requiring dressing changes. Additionally, the RN will perform laboratory draws as needed and manage telemetry monitoring. Patient ratios are typically 5-6 patients per RN and 8 patients per CNA. Collaboration with a team including charge nurses, receptionists, and phlebotomists is essential. Support services such as rapid response teams and intensivists are available 24/7. The unit focuses on patient-centered care and fosters strong teamwork. This position requires the ability to manage medications such as amiodarone, fentanyl PCA, ketamine PCA, dilaudid PCA, and heparin. The RN will work with technologies including electronic medical records, IV pumps, and medication dispensing equipment. Floating to other MedSurg units may be required based on departmental needs.
