Job Description

Schedule/Travel: Calendar year, part-time, 16 hours per week. Additional hours may be required. Schedule may vary according to department and Kent School needs. Shift Available: 3 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. (Saturday and Sunday) FLSA: Non-exempt Classification: Staff Start Date: ASAP Position Summary: Along with other campus departments, the Safety Officer will assist in maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, employees, and visitors. The Safety Officer maintains a high degree of visibility on school property, serves as a deterrent to crime, and enhances the feeling of personal security for students, employees, and visitors. Also, the Safety Officer assists law enforcement, EMS, and Fire Department personnel with their response to the school. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Patrol school property, checking doors, gates, windows, and all points of entry to school property to ensure unauthorized persons have not gained access to the premises undetected. Immediately respond to all calls for assistance and service in a courteous, expeditious, and professional manner. Monitor campus property for safety hazards, report violations, and institute immediate corrective action if possible. Maintain a complete log for each tour of duty, registering all activity, the exact time of service, and all unusual conditions when discovered. Work assigned security details at school-sponsored events. Assist faculty and administration in enforcing all Kent School safety rules and regulations. Adhere to established school policies and guidelines and follow specific instructions. Immediately notify Director of Campus Safety & Security of all major incidents. Performs other duties as needed and assigned. Physical Requirements: Extensive walking, stair climbing, standing, and driving on and around campus. Patrols are on foot or in a vehicle, and sometimes in adverse weather conditions. Ability to lift and transport up to 20 lbs. regularly. Qualifications: High School degree or a combination of education and work experience in related fields, preferably in an independent school environment. Valid driver's license is required. Hold or have the ability to obtain a CT Guard Card. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills working with various audiences (students, employees, and visitors). Ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage time effectively. Demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure. Able to work independently, make sound decisions with flexibility/adaptability, and maintain a calm demeanor. Willing to support team members as needed. Additional Requirements: Successful completion of post-offer, pre-employment criminal background checks and drug test. Maintain punctual and regular attendance. Work is performed on a smoke-free campus. Additional Information: The essential functions and basic skills have been included.
