Salary: Depends on Qualifications Location : Albemarle, NC Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 2000300 Department: Sheriff's Office Opening Date: 03/06/2026 Closing Date: 3/22/2026 11:59 PM Eastern Job Description The Special Victims Investigator is a sworn deputy assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division, able to work general criminal investigations if needed, but whose primary focus shall be on sexual offenses, crimes involving physical, sexual, or neglect-related harm against children, domestic violence, and other associated crimes within the jurisdiction of the Sheriff's Office. This position requires advanced investigative skills, a victim-centered approach, and close coordination with Patrol Deputies, School Resource Officers, Detention staff, prosecutors, forensic professionals, child advocacy centers, and partner agencies. The Investigator handles highly sensitive cases requiring discretion, professionalism, and strict adherence to legal and evidentiary standards. Examples of Job DutiesConduct comprehensive investigations of adult and child sexual assault, child abuse/neglect, exploitation, and related felony offenses Respond to crime scenes to collect, preserve, and document physical and digital evidence Conduct interviews of victims, witnesses, and suspects Prepare and execute search warrants, arrest warrants, and related legal documents Analyze digital evidence in coordination with forensic specialists Prepare detailed case files and investigative reports Present cases to the District Attorney and assist with prosecution preparation Testify in court proceedings, hearings, and grand jury sessions Coordinate with Child Protective Services, medical providers, forensic examiners, victim advocates, and Child Advocacy Centers Work closely with the Patrol Division on case follow-ups and investigative leads Provide guidance and support to deputies on sex assault-related calls for service Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with Sheriff's Office policies and state/federal laws Participate in specialized training related to sexual assault investigations and crimes against children Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesThorough knowledge of criminal law, search and seizure laws, and rules of evidence Knowledge of Sheriff's Office policies, procedures, and chain-of-command structure Skilled in conducting interviews and interrogations in sensitive investigations Ability to analyze complex investigative information and digital evidence Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to handle emotionally charged and graphic material professionally Ability to work independently while maintaining effective coordination within the Sheriff's Office structure Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact compassionately with victims Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Sworn Deputy Sheriff in good standing Certification as a law enforcement officer in the State of North Carolina Minimum of 5 years of patrol or investigative experience Successful completion of the background investigation and internal review process Valid driver's license Preferred Qualifications: Prior investigative experience within the Criminal Investigation Division Children's Advocacy Centers of North Carolina MDT training Sexual Assault related training courses STANLY COUNTY BENEFITS (Full-time Employees) Employees accrue sick and vacation time each paycheck. Stanly County observes twelve (12) holidays. New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving (Thursday and Friday), Christmas (3 days). Employees receive one (1) personal day per year. INSURANCE BENEFITS: Stanly County provides health & vision insurance with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. Our plan is a PPO, 80/20, with a $1000 deductible. Teledoc is offered through our insurance for a $10 co-pay per visit. Primary care visit is a $40 co-payment. Specialist is $50 co-pay. One free eye exam per year. The insurance coverage is FREE to full-time employees. Dental Coverage is with Guardian dental insurance and is FREE to full-time employees. Other volunteer insurance benefits include: Flexible Spending Program, Life Insurance, Cancer, Accident, and Disability policies. Stanly County offers an employee health clinic. Our on-site Advance Practice Provider will see employees and dependents covered on our county insurance plan free of charge. This service does not replace your primary healthcare providers but augments their care. As a wellness benefit, employees have the option of joining the Stanly County YMCA. The County will pay half of the employee's membership. Employee Assistant Program is offered through Atrium Health. Each employee will receive up to six (6) free sessions on a rolling year. Dependent children and/or spouse may also use the sessions. RETIREMENT: Stanly County Employees will be a member of the N. C. Local Government Employees' Retirement System. Stanly County is required to withhold six percent (6%) from each paycheck and deposit it into the retirement system. The County also contributes to the plan. You are vested at five years as a contributing member. After one year of contributing membership in the system, a death benefit is available if you die while still in active service or within 180 days of your last day of service. NC 401(k) (Supplemental Retirement Plan): Employees can contribute to the Empower 401(k) plan upon hire. If the employee contributes at least one percent (1%), Stanly County will match one percent (1%). Additionally, employees may make additional contributions through the following options: 457 Deferred Compensation Plan and Roth Plan Option. LONGEVITY: Longevity pay is earned after three (3) years of continuous Local Government retirement benefited service working with Stanly County government.
