Salary: $23.15 - $49.67 Hourly Location : Stafford County, VA Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 03961 Department: Utilities Division: Facilities Maintenance Opening Date: 12/10/2025 Starting Salary: $23.15/hour to $36.47/hour based on experience Job Description Performs intermediate skilled work in the maintenance, repair and replacement of machinery and equipment in a water or wastewater treatment plant and pump stations; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. There are three levels for this position, following is the hiring ranges based on experience: Utilities Maintenance Mechanic I: $23.15/hour to $31.84/hour Utilities Maintenance Mechanic II: $26.52/hour to $36.47/hour Utilities Maintenance Mechanic III: $28.38/hour to $39.03/hour The full salary range for all three levels to provide opportunity for growth and development: Utilities Maintenance Mechanic I: $23.15/hour to $40.52/hour Utilities Maintenance Mechanic II: $26.52/hour to $46.41/hour Utilities Maintenance Mechanic III: $28.38/hour to $49.67/hour Examples of DutiesPerforms preventive maintenance on utility plant equipment and pump stations and assists with the repair of plant and pump station equipment; Checks water and wastewater treatment plant and pump stations; Performs preventive maintenance on such equipment as pumps, engines, electric motors and controls, blowers, conveyors, ventilation systems; Dismantles and assists in overhauling plant equipment; Maintains records; Performs related tasks as required. Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesGeneral knowledge of the installation, repair and maintenance of the mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components of water and wastewater treatment and pump station equipment; Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions of the work; Skill in the use and care of tools of the trade; Ability to determine improper operation of water and wastewater pumping and treatment equipment, and to take proper remedial action; Ability to follow oral and written directions; Ability to supervise the work of skilled helpers; Ability to work under adverse conditions. Education and Experience Utilities Maintenance Mechanic I Graduation from high school and less than 1 year of experience in the repair and maintenance of a variety of water and wastewater pumping station mechanical, electrical and control equipment. Utilities Maintenance Mechanic II Graduation from high school and 3 years of experience in the repair and maintenance of a variety of water and wastewater pumping station mechanical, electrical and control equipment. Utilities Maintenance Mechanic III Graduation from high school and 5 years of experience in the repair and maintenance of a variety of water and wastewater pumping station mechanical, electrical and control equipment. Special Requirements: Possession of an appropriate commercial driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Please for our full-time benefits.
