Apprentice Electrician: $39.04/hr, with advancement to $48.80/hr, after four years. Individual job duties will vary based on work assignment or location.Under the Guidance of the Lead Electrician Perform installation, wiring, inspection, testing, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair of high and low voltage switchgear, switchboards, and switchboard equipment including necessary disassembly and assembly of machinery located at all generation sites. Perform installation, wiring, inspection, testing, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair of all electrical and electronic equipment associated with the operation and control of generation site boilers, turbines, generators, engines and auxiliary systems, reading blueprints, schematics wire sizing, and wiring. Perform necessary actions for proper lock out and tag out of generation equipment and auxiliary systems. Perform the installation, wiring, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and repair of electric system communication and supervisory control equipment. Perform the installation, wiring, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and repair of electrical distribution systems and equipment serving the Utility's general service facilities. Under the Guidance of the Lead Electrician Follow departmental standards to record and document maintenance and repair records in a computerized maintenance management system. Assist in the requisitioning of spare parts, repair parts, and materials as requested. Assist on specific assignments, the Power Resources' operating, mechanical maintenance and instrument and controls crews and on occasion the transmission and distribution crews. Maintains tools, test equipment, and work area in an operable and orderly condition. Perform other duties as assigned or necessary.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and ExperienceA high school diploma or equivalent GED AND two years’ experience in an industrial environment with preference to power generationORcompletion of a two-year electrical trade school programORcompletion of an approved Apprentice Electrician programApplicants who have not completed an Apprentice Electrician program must successfully complete RPU's Apprentice Electrician program within five years as a condition of continued employment.Licenses and CertificationsValid Minnesota driver's licenseDESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONSEducation and ExperienceAdditional education in electrical, electronics, control logic, mathematics or sciences.NFPA 70E TrainingExperience and working knowledge of electrical and electronics theory, control systems, safety practices, codes, standards and regulations governing the installation, operation, testing and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems. Power generation experience. Computerized Maintenance Management System or SAP data management systems familiarity.Licenses & CertificationsState of Minnesota Maintenance, Journeyman or Master Electrician's LicenseEPRI I, II or III CertificationOSHA 30 CertificationSPECIAL REQUIREMENT OF THE POSITIONThis position is subject to an apprenticeship where new employees may be required to complete a four (4) year training program to qualify as an Electrician. During this period, the Apprentice will perform the principal duties of an Electrician under the direct supervision of the Lead Electrician. Within one year of completion of the apprenticeship the Electrician must obtain a Journeyman Electrician's License.The Apprentice will normally receive the following percentages of the base wage established for the position of Electrician.1st six months 80%2nd six months 82.5%3rd six months 85%4th six months 87.5%5th six months 90%6th six months 92.5%7th six months 95%8th six months 97.5%Advancement through the above wage steps is based on acceptable job performance and satisfactory completion of any established requirements of the apprenticeship program.
