The PositionWe advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love.A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available for a highly motivated and independent candidate to join the Pharmaceutical Development (Drug Delivery) department at Genentech. This position will focus on developing next generation bioconjugates to improve drug delivery of large molecules. The successful candidate will have expertise in synthetic chemistry, from backgrounds including organic/medicinal chemistry, bioconjugation, polymer chemistry, or other related fields. The project will require the use of state of the art synthetic chemistry and bioconjugation approaches to identify optimal linker structures and bioconjugation methods. This will be used to prepare bioconjugates that modify the biological responses of large molecules and to take advantage of this as a drug delivery strategy. You will also develop methods for understanding developability of these bioconjugates, including linker release conditions and piloting assessment of formulation stability and manufacturability. The Opportunity: You will have opportunities to productively collaborate with other researchers across gRED (Genentech Research and Early Development) and PTD (Pharmaceutical Technical Development), present your work to project teams, and contribute to scientific publications. As a member of Pharmaceutical Development, you will gain a deep understanding of formulation development for large molecules and directly apply this knowledge for developing new formulation and drug delivery strategies. You will be part of the Genentech post-doctoral training program that provides an outstanding environment and the opportunity to pursue fundamental basic science questions in an environment focused on drug development and breakthrough discoveries. Who You Are: Ph.D. with a proven track record of excellence in Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Must have advanced at least one key research project as evidenced by a first-author paper published or accepted in a leading peer-reviewed journal. Independent scientist with outstanding communication skills, a strong passion and commitment to science and drug delivery innovation, who works well within a team. Excited about applying medicinal chemistry and bioconjugation skills to improving drug delivery of large molecules. Preferred Qualifications: Hands-on experience organic chemistry, including linker synthesis and/or bioconjugation is highly desirable Experience with analytical techniques for small molecules (HPLC, LC-MS, NMR) as well as large molecules (SEC, IEC, SPR) Working knowledge of drug delivery, including understanding of basic PK parameters. Familiarity with high-throughput screening is advantageous. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco California is $100,000 to $106,500. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
