Summary: Reporting directly to KBI's Chief Strategy Officer, this internship will provide a hands-on opportunity for a graduate-level biomanufacturing student to apply data analytics and applied AI methods directly to real-world Quality System challenges within a cGMP-regulated biopharmaceutical environment. A successful candidate will contribute to the development of data-driven tools-such as deviation heatmaps, trend alert systems, and AI-assisted investigation support-that enhance decision-making and operational efficiency across KBI's Quality organization. Responsibilities: AI Development & Applied Modeling (50%) Co-develop an AI draft scoring prototype Test prompting strategies and model evaluation Assist in dataset structuring Deviation analytics (30%) Analyze deviation metadata and trends Build prototype deviation heatmaps Identify hotspots and systemic patterns. Data Automation & Reporting (15%) Assist in building automated reporting logic Create Power BI dashboards or Python scripts Documentation & QA Engagement (5%) Prepare explanation materials and summaries Support stakeholder communication Requirements: Graduate student in Biomanufacturing/Biotech Working knowledge of QMS, deviations, RCA, CAPA Strong interest and curiosity in AI for Biomanufacturing Self-directed and proactive Preferred Requirements: Familiarity with cGMP, as well as experience with Python, data structures, and Power BI The ability to iterate AI prompts Microbial processing exposure Project Management skills Additional Internship Details: Through this internship, a successful candidate will receive the following: Practical exposure to deviation management in a cGMP setting. Hands-on applied AI in real biomanufacturing workflows. Python, automation, visualization, and model prototyping skills. Experience structuring operational problems into analytical projects. Professional communication and project management experience. The expected deliverables by the end of this internship are as follows: Deviation Heatmap MVP Trend Alert logic prototype AI Draft Scoring first working model Optional: Automated Reporting Pipeline Additional internship details: This internship will require 10 hours of work per week over four (4) to six (6) months. A successful candidate will participate in weekly check-ins with the Chief Strategy Officer. This internship location is hybrid and will be a combination of working from home, in our Corporate HQ located at 4117 Emperor Blvd, Durham, NC 27703, and in our two manufacturing sites in Durham. There may also be the opportunity to travel to KBI's manufacturing site in Boulder, CO.
