The Respiratory Therapist - Supervisor (RT-S) demonstrates sensitivity and empathy to the needs of patients, visitors, and Littleton Regional Healthcare staff. This role provides direct patient care across all patient populations while also assuming responsibility for the daily operations, leadership, and oversight of Respiratory Services. The RCP-S supports the mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives of Littleton Regional Healthcare and demonstrates a commitment to quality service, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. SUMMARY OF MAJOR FUNCTIONS The Respiratory Care Practitioner - Supervisor is responsible for providing comprehensive respiratory care to inpatients and outpatients at Littleton Regional Healthcare while overseeing daily department operations. This position shares in 24/7 in-house and on-call coverage and serves as a clinical and operational leader for the Respiratory Department. The RT-S ensures adherence to LRH policies, departmental procedures, and New Hampshire licensure standards, and partners with medical and administrative leadership to maintain high-quality, compliant respiratory services. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND WORK ROLE RESPONSIBILITIESClinical Care Responsibilities Provide direct respiratory care services to patients of all ages in inpatient and outpatient settings. Share in providing 24-hour in-house and on-call respiratory coverage. Deliver a full range of respiratory services, including: Adult ventilator management CPAP and BiPAP therapy Airway management Arterial blood gas collection Aerosol and nebulizer therapy Chest physiotherapy Pulmonary function testing Patient and family education Review existing patient data, collect additional data as needed, and assess respiratory status. Initiate, conduct, and modify prescribed therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Maintain artificial and natural airways and provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation as required. Document all clinical care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record. Communicate patient findings and care plans with the interdisciplinary team. Supervisory and Operational Responsibilities Assume responsibility for daily operations of the Respiratory Services Department. Partner with the Director of Critical Care and Medical Director to: Develop, implement, and review protocols, standing orders, policies, and procedures Establish staffing patterns, testing guidelines, and documentation processes Participate in recruitment, hiring, orientation, supervision, and performance evaluation of respiratory staff. Maintain staff competency, licensure, certifications, and personnel records. Develop and implement staff education and professional development programs. Conduct department meetings and interdisciplinary conferences related to patient care and operational concerns. Ensure respiratory equipment is selected, maintained, calibrated, and available for clinical use. Oversee quality improvement activities, productivity monitoring, and performance metrics. Participate in budget development and resource planning in collaboration with leadership. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, Medicare requirements, and Critical Access Hospital expectations. PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE / SELF-GOVERNANCE Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives. Support a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning. Serve as a clinical and professional role model for respiratory staff. Maintain current knowledge of respiratory best practices and clinical guidelines. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPSREPORTS TO: Director of Specialty Practices / Clinical Director of Critical Care Services SUPERVISES: Respiratory Care Practitioners and support staff within the Respiratory Department QUALIFICATIONSExperience / Specialized Skills Current licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of New Hampshire. Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program. Minimum of 3 years recent clinical respiratory therapy experience in an acute care setting. Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred. Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills. Computer literacy required. Required Education / Training ACLS PALS Preferred Certification / Registration Advanced respiratory or leadership certifications preferred PHYSICAL DEMANDS See Physical Demands Worksheet.
