The College's Non-Discrimination policy can be found Overview Under the supervision of officials responsible for the coordination and accomplishment of facility, plant, and utility maintenance and operation work, perform the duties particular to, and normally required in, the trade of electrician, following recognized procedures and techniques for such work. To maintain the electrical systems and equipment in good repair and working order. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Repairs, installs, replaces and tests electrical circuits, equipment and appliances using necessary hand tools and testing instruments. 2. Inspects and tests electrical lighting, signal, communication, fire alarm, and power circuits and equipment. 3. Isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors and other electrical equipment, using suitable testing instruments. 4. Examines and tests elements of electrical systems to locate obvious faults, such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires, loose connections, and worn motor brushes. 5. Replaces faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators, and other simple elements of electrical systems, fixtures and appliances. 6. Renews circuits either by isolating and cutting out defective wiring and replacing it with new wiring or by splicing ends of broken wires. 7. Replaces defective equipment parts such as gears, bushings and bearings and other related electrical parts. 8. As required, estimate materials needed and record time and materials expended on each work order. 9. Will have minor supervisory duties when General Laborer or Student Worker is assigned to assist in the work of the Electrician. 10. Install new and additional electrical work, remodeling, etc. 11. Perform maintenance and repair of motors, relays, magnetic starters, transformers, etc. 12. Install electrical conduit for installation of new equipment and wiring. 13. Be capable of installing and interconnecting transformers and repairing, maintaining, altering or installing wiring, cabling, and electrical equipment. 14. Troubleshoot electrical systems. 15. As required, be in an on call status and respond to emergencies on campus after hours. MARGINAL DUTIES: 1. Perform other related duties as assigned. Education and ExperiencePossess thorough knowledge of codes pertaining to maintenance and installation of electrical systems. Have and maintain a current Journeyman License or Maintenance Electrician License. Good oral and written communications skills. Understand the electrical symbols and interpretation of building and electrical prints. High school, technical or trade school graduate or equivalent. Eight (8) years in electrical trade in maintenance or construction. Four (4) years in electrical trade in a medical, research or academic facility. Supplemental InformationWORKING REQUIREMENTS: Physical Requirements: Electrician must be able to individually lift a minimum of 50 lbs, and be able to, with assistance, move and transport materials and equipment weighing excess of 200 lbs. He/she must be able to work in confined spaces requiring bending or stooping for long periods and be able to work from ladders or elevated platforms. He/she must be able to work in extreme weather conditions. Work Environment: Electrician's work covers the full spectrum of buildings and activities. He/she will be required to work in conditioned and unconditioned buildings and spaces, within the central power plant, as well as outdoors in all but the most inclement weather. Comment: Shift for the Electrician is 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
