Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time DescriptionPractical Nursing Instructor (Full-Time) SUMMARY The Practical Nursing (PN) instructor is responsible for instructing students, organizing the curriculum, overseeing classroom management, tracking the progress of each student and keeping accurate records/files on each student in the classes he or she teaches. RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES 1. Practical Nurse Instructor (On Campus Only) (Also referred to as Primary Instructor) Provide a syllabus for each course the Practical Nurse Instructor teaches that includes the course title, lecture/lab/clinical hour breakdown, course description, course learning objectives, method of instruction, course instructions, instructor professional bio, assessment methods, bio information on additional instructors that will participate in the delivery of the course, textbook(s) and supporting student resources, and location of the class. Develop lesson plans that include lecture and/or lab delivery methods, assignments/activities, homework and evaluation tools for assigned classes as designated by the college provided curriculum. Instruct and guide students in the classroom and/or lab learning environment, as designated by the college provided curriculum. Demonstrate procedures/processes and operate/demonstrate the use of appropriate equipment as designated by the curriculum. Grade and evaluate students' work in a timely manner and provide constructive feedback. Assist and tutor students with areas of the curriculum with which they are having difficulty. Keep accurate and up to date progress reports on students' work. Compile reports/updates on students as required. Provide telephone and/or email follow-up with students as requested. Maintain a cooperative and professional learning environment. If designated for clinical work site instruction, the Practical Nurse Instructor is responsible for the supervision of students while they are at their clinical (off-site) experience as per the rules and regulations set by their program and the Ohio Board of Nursing. 2. Course Development Conduct on-going evaluation of course material as outlined in Valley's Practical Nursing program by-laws. Participate in the selection of books and materials. Maintain student handouts, tests, assignments and course syllabus. At the conclusion of each course, faculty shall: Compare the number of planned clinical hours as established in the syllabus with the number of clinical hours actually provided to students. Results should be reported to the Practical Nursing Program Administrator with any supporting comments/explanation. Compare the number of planned laboratory hours as established in the syllabus with the number of laboratory hours actually provided to students and report the data to the administrator. Data reported on clinical and laboratory hours should be reported using a chart that contains the name of the course, date range the course was taught, faculty name, number of clinical hours planned, and the actual number of clinical and/or laboratory hours provided to the students. Data in this chart will be maintained by the Practical Nurse Program Administrator and will be filed for submission with the Annual Report submitted to the Ohio Board of Nursing. 3. Professional Development Develop a professional development (self-development and professional growth) plan. Provide documentation that demonstrates the professional development plan that has been executed; and Attend scheduled mandatory Valley College faculty meetings and in-service workshops Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but collaborates with the academics' team to support student success. WORK ENVIRONMENT and PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position operates in a professional academic classroom and clinical setting. It is an onsite position. The position routinely uses standard office equipment, including but not limited to phones, computers, printers, photocopiers, projectors, and an online teaching platform. The position may perform procedures or processes and operate or demonstrate the use of appropriate equipment as designated by the curriculum. The employee must be able to: Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods Frequently use hands and fingers to operate office equipment Occasionally reach, bend, or lift to move items such as but not limited to files, office supplies, or equipment. Maintain visual acuity to read and prepare documents Reasonable accommodation requests will be considered per ADA guidelines. TRAVEL It may require occasional travel to a different campus site, off-site work-related locations such as clinicals sites, professional development events, or campus events. POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK This is a full-time salaried position (40 hours a week). This is an onsite position. The hours depend on the academic term and student needs. Typical work hours align with class schedules, including occasional evenings or weekends, to accommodate student availability. The standard work week is Monday - Friday, 8am to 5pm. REQUIREMENTS - ACADEMIC, LICENSING AND PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE RN, BSN preferred Three years of experience as a professional nurse providing direct patient care. Two years must be as an RN. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Unencumbered, current Registered Nurse Licensure in Ohio (License must be renewed as required by BON) Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to navigate student learning system and student learning platforms Proficient writing and communication skills Excellent professionalism and work ethic The ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Valley College will verify license, prior work experience and education background. SUPERVISORY CONTROL Direct Report: PN Program Administrator May receive collaborative direction from campus management to support institutional goals.
