STEEL DETAILER - Structural and Miscellaneous Steel - Near East Orange, NJ We are seeking an experienced Steel Detailer to oversee the detailing services for both in-house and subcontracted projects, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and adherence to budgets and schedules. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Autodesk Advance Steel, a deep understanding of structural and miscellaneous steel, and the ability to maintain high-quality standards throughout the project lifecycle. Job Title: Steel Detailer Responsibilities: Oversee daily operations of both in-house and subcontracted detailing services. Develop and maintain detailed schedules while managing budgets effectively. Ensure upkeep and consistency with company Detail Procedures and Standards. Collaborate closely with Sales and Estimating teams on: Reviewing estimates for accuracy and specification compliance. Selecting external detailers for specific projects. Implement Value Engineering to optimize project designs. Work closely with Project Managers on: Coordinating project timelines, scope, and engineering requirements. Reviewing details for constructability and ease of shipment. Apply Value Engineering principles to improve project efficiency. Review project specifications and relevant codes (AISC, AWS, RSCS, etc.) to ensure compliance. Manage connection design in accordance with AISC standards, USI Engineer, and the Engineer of Record. Resolve special issues and field modifications for steel fit-up. Ensure adherence to AISC Standards and Code of Standard Practice as needed. Coordinate and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) with Project Managers and upper management. Review all contract documents for discrepancies, reporting issues to Project Managers for clarification. Generate and document RFIs for any inconsistencies in contract documents and specifications, submitting them through the Project Manager. Ensure the quality and accuracy of all drawings. Address shop and field inquiries related to projects detailed by subcontractors or external detailers. Preferred Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Proficiency in Autodesk Advance Steel software is essential. At least 3 years of experience in the structural steel industry. Excellent communication, conflict management, and influencing skills (both verbal and written). Ability to read and interpret structural and miscellaneous drawings. Strong collaborative skills and the ability to thrive in high-pressure situations. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships based on integrity, trust, and mutual respect. A strong sense of urgency and the ability to manage the bid process effectively while addressing customer needs and balancing business priorities.
