Job Title: Director of Finance Department: Finance Reports To :Deputy Director for Finance andAdministration Salary: $100,000-$120,000 FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-Time Work schedule: Monday - Friday, Nights and Weekends as needed. Prepared/Revised Date: February 2026 Job Summary: The Director of Finance will lead the day-to-day accounting and finance operations for the museum, including budgeting and financial planning, accounting, grant management, compliance, and reporting activities. The responsibilities include ensuring accurate accounting practices that align with GAAP, maintaining a complete internal control framework, timely and accurate financial analysis and reporting. This role is responsible for upholding the institutional financial standards through collaboration with all levels of staff. Duties & Responsibilities:Responsible for day-to-day operations, training, and supervision of the Finance department team to achieve the overall goals and objectives of the department and organization. Develop, refine, and maintain a complete system of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls in compliance with GAAP, including documentation, identifying controls and risks, monitoring ongoing compliance, and enforcing policies and procedures. Manage organizational cash flow and projections, maintaining positive cash flows and maximum use of excess investable funds. Monitor and manage the organization's endowment funds. Provide timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with GAAP, assisting management, board of trustees, and granting organizations. Ensure compliance with all sources of funding. Assist the Deputy Director for Finance and Administration in preparing financial information for the Board of Trustees, senior staff, and committees. Oversee and lead organizational budgeting and financial planning collaboratively with cross-departmental teams. Review and analyze variances from the budget and report significant issues to management. Continually monitor progress and changes associated with the annual budget. Manage department KPIs with various teams within the organization. Offer additional financial analysis as requested, including operational best practices. Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, including external auditors and internal staff. Coordinate and lead the annual tax return process, including IRS form 990 and 990-T, Secretary of State reporting. Administer the financial databases, ensuring effective utilization. Maintain streamlined, efficient, and effective accounting processes and electronic systems. Fulfill other duties as necessary. Qualifications/Requirements:Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration. CPA license a plus. Minimum seven years of experience in an accounting leadership role. Successful candidates will be hands-on, lead by example, and a participative manager. Ability to work independently and collegially in a respectful work environment. Adaptable to the nonprofit culture and understand the complexity of the financial management of projects, programs, and grants. Confident, inclusive, and comfortable team player willing to help with a range of tasks, small and large. Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office. Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is a plus. Nonprofit accounting experience is advantageous. Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting best practices. Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities to contribute to business decisions and anticipate future consequences and trends. Capacity to multi-task, assess priorities, and work efficiently. Exceptional organizational and time management skills. Professional communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to translate financial concepts to non-financial colleagues. Attention to detail with high ethical standards. Values dependability, responsibility, and confidentiality. Uniform Requirements: Business casual attire. Physical Demands: This role requires standing, walking, sitting, and manual dexterity. Ability to reach, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch. Effective verbal and auditory communication.
