Position Type: Administration Date Posted: 2/10/2026 Location: Administration Building Franklin Community School Corporation FCS Chief of Police Job Description Job Title: FCS Chief of Police Department: Operations Assignment: Chief of Police Supervised by: Superintendent or their designee Purpose: The purpose and mission of the Chief of Police is to lead the planning, development, organization, management, direction, and implementation of all aspects of services that support the safety of students and staff in the Franklin Community School Corporation. Primary responsibilities include school safety and security, and child welfare. The Chief of Police supports building leaders and teachers in providing all students a safe environment that is responsive to the needs of each student. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES ? Serve as Corporation Safety Coordinator ? Co-chairperson for corporation school safety meetings and lead security team initiatives, including crisis management ? Direct, plan, and organize all aspects of the operation and administration of the Franklin Community School Corporation Police Department ? Responsible for supervision, training, recruitment, and retention of school safety personnel, including school resource officers and other security staff ? Participate in the strategic planning and policy development for the Department ? Prepare annual budgets, control expenditure of funds ? Advise and assist subordinates in highly complex criminal investigations ? Conduct short and long-range planning analyses to ensure the department will maintain its goals and objectives ? Maintain effective public relations and build positive working relationships with faculty, staff, students, parents, and visitors ? Consult with outside agencies and organizations in matters of school safety ? Maintain practices and techniques to deal with the prevailing atmosphere of the school community ? Work with building administrators to plan and coordinate security for all school events (sporting, dances, graduation, band, choir, and board meetings) ? Engage stakeholders using collaborative processes and problem-solving techniques to evaluate, develop, and implement services and/or programs to support student success ? Support students' mental health ? Support and collaborate with building administrators to resolve issues and complaints ? Design and implement effective professional learning opportunities that expand educators' knowledge, skills, practices, and dispositions. ? Assure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and FCS policies concerning student safety ? Recommend and monitor security procedures at all school corporation facilities. ? Conduct annual security and safety assessment for all buildings ? Develop a schedule for monitoring use of all indoor school building facilities after school hours and on weekends with respect to proper security ? Monitor and oversee the camera, door control, and alarm systems ? Oversee traffic patterns ? Implement a traffic violation policy at the high school that provides necessary measures for students driving improperly ? Assist in the coordination of safety and security training programs for instructional staff, support staff personnel, and students ? Serve as the District's Emergency Preparedness and Crisis Planning Chair and train all school personnel on the Emergency Preparedness Plan ? Coordinate and oversee residency checks for schools ? Coordinate and monitor StopIt anonymous reporting system ? Liaison between FCS PD and the Franklin Police and Sheriff's Departments ? Pursue grant funding that would support law enforcement, school safety initiatives and programs that enhance the educational environment ? Ability to work in a collaborative environment with other professionals ? Strong work ethic and expertise in complex problem solving PHYSICAL DEMANDS ? While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear (in quiet and loud environments from a whisper to a yell), and travel from the administration building to other sites. ? The employee is required to interact with the public and staff, meet deadlines with severe time constraints, and frequently work irregular and extended days. The demands of extended work days required a high level of physical endurance and the ability to handle mental stress. ? This job requires the ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time. ? The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. ? The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. ? Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
