Job DescriptionEnergy Engineer PE I Employment Type: Full-Time | Exempt Pay: $115,000 - $135,000 Location: Chicago, IL and Newark, NJ Schedule: Onsite (Hybrid/Remote flexibility) Travel Requirements: 5-10% to project sites within the state Overview The Energy Engineer PE I evaluates, designs, and verifies energy-efficiency solutions for commercial buildings and campuses. Acting as Engineer of Record, the role leads energy audits, models building performance, and develops measurement-and-verification (M&V) plans that drive cost savings and sustainability for clients. Responsibilities Energy Procurement & Analytics: Collect and analyze utility-consumption data; research rate structures and deregulated-market trends. Develop utility budgets and identify supply-side cost-reduction opportunities. Maintain knowledge of rebate and incentive programs to maximize project ROI. Energy Auditing & Modeling: Conduct ASHRAE-level audits to assess existing MEP systems and identify conservation measures. Build engineering-based energy models to simulate proposed improvements; perform life-cycle cost analyses. Draft comprehensive audit reports and present findings to stakeholders. Measurement & Verification (M&V): Create IPMVP-compliant M&V plans; establish energy baselines using regression analysis. Coordinate with project teams to implement metering strategies and verify post-implementation savings. Develop dashboards and periodic performance reports. Remote Monitoring & Continuous Improvement: Review building-automation and weather data to detect operational anomalies. Recommend corrective actions to optimize energy, comfort, and code compliance. Client Engagement & Mentoring: Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, contractors, and utility representatives. Mentor Energy Analysts and foster a culture of technical excellence. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Engineering. EIT plus 4 years of experience under a PE. 4-7 years of experience in energy analysis, utility data evaluation, and energy-savings projects. Proficiency in advanced Excel and other MS 365 tools. Strong analytical, programming, and communication skills; ability to juggle multiple projects. Preferred Active PE license. Experience with energy-modeling software, building-automation systems, and data-analytics platforms (e.g., Power BI, Python). AEE certifications such as CEM, CMVP, CEP, CEA, EEP, or BEP.
