If this sounds like you, the Fiscal Technician 2 role at the Department of Retirement Systems may be your perfect next step! Duties We have two (2) Fiscal Tech 2 positions to fill. This recruitment will remain open until filled. Applicants who apply by 8 am (PDT) on Monday, March 16, 2026, will get first consideration. The hiring manager reserves the right to make a hiring decision at any time during the recruitment process. interviews will be held in-person at our Tumwater Office, and the first round is tentatively scheduled between March 24 and 27. The Opportunity: We are seeking two customer service and detail-oriented Fiscal Technician 2s to support financial distribution processes in our Administrative Services Division. In this role, you will work directly with retirees (members), beneficiaries, and financial institutions to track and reissue lost or destroyed retirement checks, help members set-up and update direct deposits, support cash room operations, and contribute to the broader Administrative Services Division functions. Some of what you'll do includes: Regularly communicating by phone and email with members, beneficiaries, financial institutions, and agency staff to explain applicable rules and processes related to replacement of lost or destroyed retirement checks (warrants). Reviewing the status of reported lost or stolen retirement checks, assisting payees in completing the Affidavit of Lost or Destroyed Warrant, and accurately entering required information into agency systems. Reviewing monthly warrant reports to proactively contact members who are very delayed in depositing retirement checks to encourage them to deposit before the date to deposit expires (stale dates). Contacting members to update bank account information when electronic deposits are returned due to incorrect or closed accounts and promoting enrollment in direct deposit to improve payment security and reliability. Providing backup support for accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, payroll, and payment reissue functions as needed. Supporting cash room operations daily by opening and date-stamping incoming mail, endorsing checks, and entering warrant and payment information accurately into agency systems. Maintaining shared workspaces such as the copy and print area, coordinating troubleshooting with the service desk, and distributing division mail and reports. Note: The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. All work must be performed on site at the DRS office building in Tumwater, Washington. There is no telework option for this position. Qualifications Qualifications: What we're looking for (required qualifications): Experience can be gained through various combinations of professional employment, education, and volunteer/personal experience. Experience can be concurrent: Demonstrated experience performing a variety of general clerical and fiscal duties efficiently and in compliance with established policies and procedures. Experience may include, but is not limited to handling payments, cashiering, processing invoices, data entry of financial information, and/or answering inquiries about accounts. This is typically gained through at least one (1) year of full-time experience; Experience effectively communicating information to a variety of individuals in-person, by telephone, email, video meetings, and/or online collaboration tools (such as Teams or Zoom); Demonstrated ability to operate office equipment, including computers, printers, copiers, scanners, ten-key calculators, and multi-line telephone systems; Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Excel and Word (version 2016 or newer); Experience managing and responding to frequent changes in workload and priorities; Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices is preferred but not required to be considered for this role), and Demonstrated proficiency in the following competency areas: Attention to Detail - Plans and organizes time and resources efficiently. Vacation (Annual Leave) Full-time employees accrue vacation leave at the rates specified in (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Full-time employees who are in pay status for less than 80 nonovertime hours in a month do not earn a monthly accrual of vacation leave. Part-time employees accrue vacation leave hours in accordance with (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA) on a pro rata basis. Vacation leave accrual will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Pay status includes hours worked, time on paid leave and paid holiday. As provided in , an employer may authorize a lump-sum accrual of vacation leave or accelerate the vacation leave accrual rate to support the recruitment and/or retention of a candidate or employee for a Washington Management Service position.
