New Paltz is in the scenic Hudson Valley, about 75 miles from metropolitan New York City and from Albany. The new Dean is to assume office in July 2026.New Paltz seeks a Dean who is committed to the School of Business and the institution’s distinctive mission and values, and seeks to champion and elevate its innovative, diverse, and pragmatic character. The School holds accreditation from AACSB International, a global distinction of excellence achieved by only 6% of institutions offering business degrees worldwide. Building on foundational undergraduate majors in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Management, and International Business, the School has recently introduced bachelor’s degree programs in Business Analytics and Entrepreneurship. The School also houses one of SUNY New Paltz’s most successful graduate programs: a Master of Business Administration degree offering fully online and hybrid course options with unique curricular tracks in Healthcare Management and Business Analytics. Graduate business programs at New Paltz also include a licensure-qualifying MBA in Public Accountancy, an MS in Accounting, and a new Master of Science degree in Business Analytics.As the chief academic affairs officer of the School of Business, the Dean assumes responsibility for the planning, development, growth, and quality of all academic programs and related support functions. The role encompasses articulating an academic vision for the School, leading academic strategic planning aligned with institutional priorities, developing and administering the academic budget, advancing excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service, and building relationships with businesses regionally and beyond, including fundraising and donor cultivation. The Dean must possess a proven record of outstanding leadership and the management capabilities necessary to build upon the School of Business’ trajectory of successful growth. This individual will bring creativity, vitality, and the ability to lead and communicate in a decisive, inclusive, transparent, and accessible manner.ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONSThe successful candidate will hold an earned doctorate from an accredited institution in a discipline associated with the School of Business, with a record of teaching and scholarly or creative accomplishments suitable for a tenured appointment at the rank of full professor in an academic discipline within the School. A minimum of four years of higher education academic leadership experience with increasing responsibility and complexity in leading faculty, staff, and students in business-related disciplines is required. The new Dean must demonstrate emotional intelligence, including adaptability to change, empathy, self-reflection, conflict management and resolution capabilities, and the ability to build authentic relationships while creating an atmosphere of collaboration and cooperation. Outstanding communication skills—interpersonal, written, and presentational—are essential, as is experience developing and fostering partnerships with the business sector, industry, and nonprofit organizations for authentic applied learning initiatives such as service learning, internships, and field projects, as well as for philanthropic support. The position requires demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities, successful prioritization and management skills with appropriate organization, delegation, and timely decision-making and followthrough. Experience meeting AACSB accreditation standards and processes is required, along with proven capabilities in transparent planning, budgeting, and fiscal management within complex organizations. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in recruiting and retaining diverse faculty and staff.ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSPreference will be given to candidates with experience working at a public comprehensive college/university and those with five or more years of experience at the level of Assistant Dean or above. Experience working within a multi-university system would be especially helpful.
