Salary: $22.94 - $35.56 Hourly Location : County of Prince George, VA Job Type: Part-time Temporary Job Number: PRS112025 Department: RECOVERY COURT LOCAL Opening Date: 11/20/2025 Closing Date: Continuous Essential Functions/Typical Tasks The Peer Recovery Specialist will be designated to the Recovery Court participants. This peer will act as a level of support and advocacy for the participants with substance use disorders. This individual will Perform work of moderate difficulty in providing peer support and advocacy services for consumers of substance use disorders and their families and other caregivers; does related work as required. Work involves risk to personal safety due to close contact with the offender population in a community corrections setting. The worker may be exposed to places that are considered unsafe or unsanitary, often independently. This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires reaching and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse atmospheric conditions. Qualification Requirements Working knowledge of assessment, diagnosis and treatment of those with substance use disorders. Familiarity with Recovery Courts is a plus. Ability to support others in recovery and demonstrate efforts at self-directed recovery; to effectively represent and advocate for the participant perspective within the community and the mental health system; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Must be able to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment. Successful completion of 72 hours in each of the four domains in the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) CPRS Training Curriculum: Advocacy, Ethical responsibility, Mentoring and Education, and Recovery/wellness support. Special Requirements High school diploma or GED; bachelor's degree or training as a peer advocate preferred; one year of experience in providing peer recovery support services or in a related behavioral health work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Requires personal experience with serious substance use disorder and own recovery. Additional Information Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Requires certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist by the Virginia Certification Board (VCB). May be required to work a flexible or on-call schedule.
