POSITION: DEMONSTRATION SPECIALIST - MUSIC THERAPIST SALARY: $63,833.23-$101,853.04LOCATION: A. HARRY MOOREJob Description:Reports To School Administration Supervises: Teacher Assistants Job Goal: To provide individualized and group music therapy services that support the academic, emotional, behavioral, and developmental growth of students with disabilities, in alignment with IEP goals and the school's mission of holistic student development. Performance Responsibilities: A. Clinical Music Therapy Services 1. Conducts initial and ongoing music therapy assessments to determine student needs and therapeutic goals. 2. Designs and implements individual and group music therapy sessions using evidence-based techniques to address cognitive, emotional, social, behavioral, and communication goals. 3. Collaborates with IEP teams to develop, monitor, and update measurable music therapy goals that align with student objectives. 4. Maintains fidelity to the therapeutic process while adapting interventions for students with autism, emotional disturbances, developmental delays, and other disabilities. 5. Utilizes active music-making, improvisation, songwriting, lyric analysis, and receptive music experiences as therapeutic modalities. B. Collaboration and Consultation 1. Works closely with teachers, counselors, speech and occupational therapists, and administrators to support student success across settings. 2. Provides consultation to staff on integrating music-based strategies into classrooms for emotional regulation, engagement, and sensory support. 3. Participates in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team conferences, and student support planning. 4. Offers in-service training and resources to school staff on the benefits and applications of music therapy in education. C. Documentation and Compliance 1. Maintains accurate, confidential, and timely records of student assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and service logs. 2. Submits required documentation in compliance with school, district, and state regulations. 3. Ensures adherence to FERPA, HIPAA, and IDEA confidentiality standards in all records and communications. 4. Coordinates with the Supervisor of Pupil Services on reporting and program evaluation. D. Program Development and Professional Growth 1. Develops and evaluates school-wide music therapy initiatives that promote inclusion, mental wellness, and positive behavior. 2. Stays current with research and best practices in music therapy and special education through professional development and collaboration. 3. May supervise music therapy interns or students as part of university partnerships. 4. Participates in school events, wellness programs, and community outreach when appropriate. Qualifications: A. Holds a current, valid license as a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) in New Jersey, or eligibility for state licensure in Creative Arts Therapy (Music) B. Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) credential through the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) C. Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience in a school, clinical, or therapeutic setting working with children and adolescents with special needs D. Demonstrated knowledge of child development, special education law (IDEA), Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), social-emotional learning (SEL), trauma-informed practices, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions E. Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills with students, families, teachers, and related service providers F.
