Description Central Valley Indian Health, Inc. is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Billing Clerk. The primary responsibilities include processing medical claims, ensuring accurate billing, managing patient accounts, posting payments, and overseeing the aging report. Additionally, the selected candidate will be cross trained to assist with posting payments for dental billing, as needed. The Billing Clerk is responsible for HIPAA Compliance. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: A. Ensure deposits are posted in the correct accounts based in the monthly payment batches. B. Review providers' progress notes to ensure coding and diagnosis are supported before submitting claims to payers. C. Maintain patient confidentiality according to CVIH standards and protocols. D. Follow-up on delinquent /overdue accounts, and report issues to supervisor. E. Perform reconciliation on charges and credits on patients' accounts. F. Refer any unusual transactions to supervisor. G. Work on claim denials and EOB. Report any issues/ changes to supervisor. H. Work on Aging Report every other month to ensure overdue balances are being followed. I. Post Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) when included in the monthly payment batches. J. Ensure facilities do not have any encounters without claims before beginning to work on the next month. K. Ensure there are no incomplete progress notes before beginning work on the next month; incomplete progress notes need to be reported to Supervisor. Only completed/locked progress notes can be processed. L. Patient statements are to be processed every other month. M. Ensure claims are billed correctly to payers based on billing updates. N. Communicate in a friendly and professional manner to others. Provide excellent service/support to all patients, employees, and outside contacts. O. Any other duties assigned to the employee by direct supervisor or Administration. Requirements 1. High School diploma or equivalent required. 2. Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Dental Coder (CDC) preferred. 3. Two years' experience with Family Practice Billing or General Dental Billing. 4. Three years' experience in computerized billing preferred. 5. Type 30 WPM. 6. Assume individual initiative and accept supervision and follow directions. 7. Requires an awareness and keen appreciation of Indian traditions, customs, and socioeconomic needs; an ability at times to meet and deal effectively with Indian Health Organizations consisting of numerous tribes with varied cultures which requires tact, courtesy, discretion, resourcefulness, and good judgment in handling functions of a sensitive nature. 8. "Safety Sensitive" positions are subject to random drug and alcohol screening and is a condition for continued employment.
