Position Description Advertised Job SummaryElectrician Are you experienced working with HVAC controls, access control systems, locking systems, security cameras, recorders, and network devices? Can you troubleshoot, program, and repair advanced systems while keeping safety and precision at the forefront? Do you thrive in a role where your technical expertise directly impacts campus safety and infrastructure reliability? Can you install, program, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical distribution equipment, breakers, panels, and motors? The Electrician is responsible for installing, programming, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electrical, electronic, and mechanical components, including electrical distribution equipment, breakers, panels, motors, HVAC controls, access and locking systems, security cameras, recorders, and network devices. This position plays a key role in maintaining system reliability while supporting both daily operations and long-term infrastructure improvements. Primary duties include: Install, troubleshoot, program, repair, and modify electrical distribution systems and related equipment. Maintain and repair HVAC controls, access control boards, locking systems, and third-party security devices. Read and interpret wiring schematics and technical documentation. Provide technical coordination and serve as a client liaison for major and minor repairs, upgrades, and system improvement projects. Provide on-site technical leadership and oversight to lower-level technical staff, temporary employees, vendors, and contractors. Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency, weekend, or hazardous weather call-backs as required. This position has been designated as essential personnel during inclement/hazardous weather and other emergencies. Related Minimum Required Education and Experience Requires job related accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience. Required Certification, Licensure/Other CredentialsPreferred Qualifications 5 years experience in the electrical trade. T Trade School or Apprenticeship preferred. Electrical License in the State of South Carolina. Working knowledge of tools and specialized equipment used in the electrical trade. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Knowledgeable of electronic systems. Ability to understand and follow written work orders and oral instructions. Ability to react positively to emergency situations. Ability to instruct crew members. Ability to read wiring schematics. Job Duties Job Duty Provides on-site technical leadership and oversight for internal staff, small temporary summer staff, vendors and contractors. Assist with product selection and design input for future project. For in house projects, provides scope of work, estimates project costs and schedule with direct consultation of Department representatives.
