Medical Billing Specialist This candidate will be responsible for managing the full cycle of patient and insurance billing for outpatient services in a timely and efficient manner. The role often includes a hybrid work schedule (after an initial on-site period) and focuses on ensuring accurate revenue collection. Key Responsibilities Charge and Payment Entry: Entering patient charges, medical codes, and payments into the EHR/practice management system. Claims Management: Preparing, reviewing, and submitting clean, accurate insurance claims (Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial) to payers, often on a daily basis. Accounts Receivable (A/R) & Follow-up: Monitoring aging reports, identifying denials or rejections, and conducting follow-up with insurance companies to resolve issues. Appeals: Investigating and drafting appeals for denied claims. Patient Billing & Support: Answering patient inquiries, explaining billing statements, and establishing payment plans. Compliance: Ensuring all billing activities adhere to HIPAA regulations and internal policies. Reconciliation: Reconciling patient accounts, reviewing balances, and handling patient/insurance refunds. Requirements and Qualifications Experience: Previous experience in medical billing, preferably in a clinic or outpatient setting, is typically required. Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required; some college coursework in business or accounting is often preferred. Technical Skills: Proficiency in medical billing software/EHR, ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding, and strong Microsoft Excel skills. Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently. Working Conditions & Benefits Schedule: Generally, Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts. Location: The role may be on-site initially, with options to move to a hybrid, remote, or partially remote schedule after a training period (e.g., 90 days). Environment: Clinical or office setting requiring prolonged sitting and computer use. Benefits: Often includes health, dental, vision, 401(k) matching, and paid time off (PTO). Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $18.00 - $30.00
