Transportation Driver The Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB) is the largest hunger-relief organization in Central Texas and a proud member of the Feeding America network. From its headquarters in Austin, CTFB serves a 21-county region on a mission to increase food access by providing nutritious food, leading hunger and poverty advocacy efforts, and transforming lives through programs, education, and innovative solutions. The purpose of this position is to load and unload trucks and to provide timely and efficient transportation of food products from donors to the Food Bank and back to our partner agencies. It requires dependable assistance in warehouse operations and safety procedures with emphasis on receipt and storage of incoming products. This position works independently and with minimal direct supervision. This position will report to the Transportation Manager and works independently with minimal direct supervision. Your qualifications include a current valid Texas Class A driver's license with at least 2 years of commercial fleet experience and a good driving record for at least three years (requires approval by insurance company as approved driver). A current valid Medical Certificate as required by DOT is also required. Ability to lift heavy objects safely (50 lbs. at a minimum), ability to understand and follow instructions without direct supervision, ability to work cooperatively with other staff, volunteers, agency personnel, and store employees, technical aptitude including computer literacy, navigating applications on Smart Phone and using GPS and other Tracking systems, and successfully passed the skill test. A high school diploma or equivalent is also required. Your responsibilities include transporting food from donors to the Food Bank and from the Food Bank to various agencies; including loading, driving, and unloading. Develop good working relationships with store personnel and agency personnel and immediately notify Transportation Manager of any potential problems. Keep accurate, legible log of the weights and sources of all food and grocery products donated and all agency receipts and shortages. Assess the condition of donated food, placing acceptable products in proper storage and immediately discarding unacceptable products. Mark and sort perishable foods that require special handling. Maintain the freezers and cooler in a neat and orderly condition. Maintain vehicle condition logs and immediately informs Transportation Manager of any problems concerning Food Bank vehicles including accidents, mechanical failure, or need for maintenance. Operate forklifts, jacks, trucks, and other warehouse equipment in a safe manner. Work cooperatively with warehouse staff and assists with warehouse duties when time permits. Comply with all health regulations and other laws that govern food handling. Perform additional duties as assigned. Hours of operation for this position are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. This position's schedule is dependent on scheduled delivery routes, so this role sometimes requires working irregular hours including early mornings. The environment includes ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry up to 50 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment. Conditions may include working outside in inclement weather, working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, working closely with others, working alone, working protracted or irregular hours, and traveling by car, van, bus, and airplane. Equipment used in performing only the essential functions includes computer and related equipment, calculator, copier, fax machine, telephone, and automobile. CTFB serves 21 counties in central Texas and often requires same-day travel between counties, using a personal vehicle, CTFB passenger fleet and possibly occasional out of town travel for meetings, special events or meetings for some positions.
